Allegedly they're the Alienware of the headphones world. Overpriced, middling quality.

Their FMJ model IEMs are great for the price.

Hm, interesting to know. To be honest I don't know much about headsets, and ended up picking up some Skullcandy ones. Though to be fair they were the cheapest ones in the store that weren't blatantly shit quality (not enough selection where I am), and they work well enough for what I do.

Probably when they eventually break and I pick up a different pair I'll notice the difference... but right now since I don't have a reference point, I'm fine with the ones I have. And hell, I got them too long ago to return, so no point in regretting the purchase now!

I've had these headphones for years. Picked them up really cheap when a Comp USA was going out of business. They're definitely the comfiest pair I've ever had, but the only problem I have with them is the cable with the detachable volume control. After a while mine went bad and the left and right sides would cut out at random. Picked up a cheap $1 audio cable and so it works just fine. Great headphones.

They are closed monitor headphones, expect a lot of detail and tremendously great bass with small (but above average) soundstage. I don't know if they are comfy, do some research about that.

V6 are recommended by multiple audio forums in the below 100$ price-tag, even by /g/

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about them. I've never even seen trolls attack them which is just baffling. The only negative I could see the audiophiles at head-fi bringing up is that they're cheap and don't really compare with most headphones that unsurprisingly cost way more. For their price they just cant be beat.

That's because not a lot of companies are competing in that price-range; if you add another $20 or so, you get headphones with MUCH better production values than PortaPros.

Really, the PortaPros are just 2 decent cheap headphone drivers, some 20-cent plastic casing and foams, and a cheap piece of spring steel. Its production value is probably below $3.

Talk about ripping off David-Clark's design. If these are strictly "gaming headsets" for flight sims and such, I guess that's alright. I own a couple pair of D-Cs I wish I could use for gaming... I'm sure there is a way to make a patch cable for it, I'm just too lazy to figure it out.

Sennheiser PC350. Lacks bass but sound is crystal clear and precise.
AKG K518 for portable use (mp3 etc). Highs and mids sound very nice, heavy bass (which is good for me, since i listen to edm mostly).

Skullcandy is below shit tier when it comes to headphones, their sound is shitty, their quality is shitty, they are expensive and, on top of that, most of them don't even look good.
If I'd buy headphones as a /fa/shion accessoire, then I'd buy WESC, and still not Skullcandy.

For all intents and purposes, open headphones = better sound-stage, better mids, less nuances, less bass. Closed headphones = smaller soundstage, worse mids, more nuances, more bass. It's a balance and people will take sides.

Unless you go into $500+ territory, epic near-perfect headphones lurk there.
