I put too much thought into wondering why SC2 isn't as fun to watch. There are two big reasons/

1. Retreating is impossible in many scenarious. FF/blink for toss, conc shells + stim for terran, speedlings for zerg. Any aggression is basically limited to an all in engagement or small amounts of harassment.

2. Unit pathing AI. In BW, theres a quick threshold before you maximize the power of an army. A clump of 50 marines isn't much more powerful than a clump of 20 marines simply because the pathing AI can't handle the amount of units. In SC2 this isn't a problem. Because of this, the optimal strategy is often to clump all your units together ie a deathball.

BW has multiple engagements of small armies all over the map. SC2 tends to have one engagement of massive armies.

Just my 2 cents.

Marauder, immortals, roaches are all really boring units. Their only purpose is to counter each other. Not only that, their function overlaps with other units. Marauders overlap with marines. Immortals overlap with colossi. Roaches overlap with hydras.

Here's how I personally feel about it:

SC2 games are like a good sitcom; not that long but a lot of content that's easy to digest and not look too deep in to

BW games are like a good movie; long and some focus on plot development but the overall experience is lot deeper and engaging but takes some investment to enjoy

I like them both in different moods, but the best BW series have always outclassed the best SC2 series I've seen so far. Not quite sure why.

I actually think the problem is that low tier units for terran are so effective and zergs spam roach too fast.
MUHREENS, for example, makes immortals worthless and only even considered if you have chargelots with them and most often ditched for colossus because MUHREENS.
Yet, if you were to look at the higher tier land units for terran - fucking thors, something that theoretically gets raped by immortals, never gets made because muhreen marauder ghost dropship play is all that you ever need.
Same thing with zerg - ultralisks? what the fuck ever, everybody with a brain gets brood lords instead, and you can't macro out immortals against roaches the way zerg players can macro out roaches against immortals. It's just nearly impossible past a certain timemark.
I guess there's a case to be made in pvp since archons are actually pretty good, but then you can either make immortals - something that gets countered by chargelot/mass stalkers and only counters archons/colossus and takes up robo time - or go for archons of your own and use them as tanks, and archons just make for better tanks because they move so much faster it's not funny and they don't give a fuck about force fields.
So ironically, immortals, a robotics unit, only have a place in early game.
