The anime really doesn't explain shit, you need to read the books. Here's the short explanation from the wiki:
    >Bucket capacity represents the amount of magical energy a caster can gather at once. (The name comes from the analogy Hajime Kanzaka used to describe how magic works in the Slayers world.)
    >A person's bucket capacity determines how powerful spells he can cast, as most spells have a minimal energy requirement: If the caster fails to supply enough, the spell won't work. Supplying more energy than necessary on the other hand increases the spell's power.

Lina, Luna, that moustache magician in the first series that tries to use it on Shabranigdo with hilarious results, Gourry's friend in the second season that tries using it on Fibrizzo with similarly underwhelming results, and the damn stuffed animal in the new series.

It's worth noting that each time someone other than Lina uses it, she has a hard time believing her eyes since it's supposed to be bloody rare.

The novel plotlines tended to be better than most of the anime-original stuff.

Does anyone have those porn pics of Lina Inverse that were supposedly drawn by Rui Araizumi? They were b&w as far as I remember.

    Here's a extract, hand-typed, 'cos I don't have a scanner:

    >Without any time to withdraw his sword, Zelgadiss leapt backward, his sword lodged in Veldur's throat.
    >Shakily, Veldur's fingers gripped the hilt of Veldur's sword. He slowly extracted the blade from his neck, then let it fall to the floor with a clang. His body shook as he awkwardly backed away.

    >Unreal!

    >Zelgadiss and I stared at each other, awestruck. The blade had impaled Veldur right through the throat-that's one of the most fatal strike you can launch, and even the biggest, baddest creatures in the world can't survive without a neck. But Veldur had just pulled the sword out and stalked away to shake it off, like he'd yanked a splinter from his foot. It was completely impossible! Was Veldur spasming in his final death throes or something?

And it's accompanied with a picture of Zel thrusting his sword through some bird-man's throat, with blood splashing everywhere. Shit's hardcore, yo.

I wonder what ever happened to the Action/Comedy anime genre. I fucking loved Ranma, And Dragon Ball.... but then it became Z and it quickly got too monotonous.
