As a guy who likes SP and MP equally I don't see the attraction to campaigns in CoD and BF, they're both so scripted that I just can't force myself to play all the way through. If they were stand alone games [meaning no multiplayer] they would be bargain bin material.

They're interactive movies. Lots of action, lots of sequences and QTEs, with just enough regular FPS gameplay and player interaction to make them far more engaging than regular movies.

I play them for the same reasons I watch movies: they're fun when you just want to take a break from books or real video games, turn your brain off, and enjoy some relatively mindless action.
