In the launch of BC2, the only problem with the server browser was that anyone using it would randomly crash. Someone would find a server, then everyone else would just join on them.

With this, when booting a game, you have a high chance of crashing and because you create and destroy a new process everytime you want to join a server, the load times are increased. It's pretty fucking stupid. The fact that there isn't any auto-join just makes it even worse.

I tend to partly agree with you op. In the past (with bf2 and bf2142 I think as well) we had unusable menus in the beginning, unusable and buggy as fuck.

With battlog they forced themselves also to make this game VERY alt tab friendly. This game doesnt mind at all to be alt tabbed out.

It is however very unorthodox, I have seen nobody who has ever tried this and the potential for running into problems is also bigger. I cannot legally play this games sp when battlelog is down. Now that is some bullshit.

I'll admit, it's decent. I enjoy being able to drop game instantly and find a server rather quickly, and they did hold true to their word about alt tabbing being pretty quick.

That being said, I despise a LOT of shit about it. The connection constantly drops, there are tons of errors that remind me of facebook's chat connections dropping constantly, the party system, despite being able to chat with others in my party, tells me I'm not in a party when I try to join up. Party members try to queue into a game, two of us don't get it and one is apparently not in the party. The whole interface is cluttered unless you're rocking two or more monitors, and at times it can be confusing. A browser based system is terrible for this game. I would have much preferred an in-game browser or a battlelog menu that pops up as it's own application beforehand. I have few bad things to say about the game itself though.

I had no problems with battlelog in either the Alpha or the Beta, hoping it'll be the same when I get my copy, although I'm expecting some typical launch week shitups. Provided battlelog works for me I think I prefer it to conventional server lists, took me some getting used to at first but now I actually quite like the features.

Origin, however, still makes me feel monitored, not sure how justified that feeling actually is though. Luckily you can just run that shit in a sandbox and not worry about it.

Bitching about bugs and crashes is fair play and people should be angry if battlelog or origin doesn't work.

From a purely technical standpoint, battlelog is lunacy. Having your game RELY on a platform ("the web") that has multiple entry points (browsers) that all render the platform in different ways, THEN requiring each entry point to have a plugin to access your non-standard content, when the entry points are KNOWN for updating at a rapid pace which you have NO control over.

Support nightmare, and you're just asking for your customers to have problems with it. Let alone the fact that HTML isn't truly designed for showing dynamic content like that.

Hell, I made a shitty XNA game, implemented my own netcode and server model, and created a shitty server browser as a standalone app in C# in a couple of weeks (from knowing nothing about netcode/developing servers). DICE have years of experience, and churn out this piece of shit.

I have had no troubles with battlelog, only once been told to 'take it easy' and that was my fault.

It is very fluid and speedy (for me at least) especially compared to BC2 and BF2's in game server browsers which took ages to load a server list, then loaded server info and had to load again if I changed what part of the menu I was looking at. Battlelog's loading times are vastly superior to any previous BF's server browsers.

Obviously I am lucky enough to not have run into any problems, but in my OPINION I am very happy with battlelog after being skeptical at first.

Ok, it always takes me and my friends at least 45 minutes to join a server. Someone always crashes, never gets the invite, won't give them the option to join with party, game never starts up, one person never gets the option to start up the game, won't let us create a party, and then when we finally get in a server it splits us all up for no reason.

What the fuck was wrong with the in-game server browser? Better than jumping through a thousand hoops every fucking time.

Battlelog has potential, but it will need to go through a couple iterations, which is possible given it shouldn't be hard to change a website. I just have a bookmark for Battlelog and pop that when I want to play and let origin start up in the background when it's time.
