  • Happy 8th Birthday, 4chan

Server/posting issues should be resolved now.

Portland, OR folks: You are invited to drink beers, play arcade games, and eat cheap cake.
The *tentative* plan is to meet up Saturday, at 10PM @ Ground Kontrol ($2 cover after 9PM, 21+ after 5PM), and grab donuts at Voodoo after midnight.
Any suggestions for a place to buy cakes on short notice? If anything changes I'll post it to @4chan on the Twitter (so follow it if you're thinking about coming).

I want to try AMK but my game is 1.0005 and /v/ says AMK is buggier when its played with SoC 1.0005. Wat do.

    Image is LURK 1.1
Cordon was foggier than usual and it kinda creeped me since I've had LURK for 4 months now and its the first time I got this much fog in the game.

Here you go. Follow these instructions, don't worry about bugs, I didn't find any when I played [except the inability to join factions, but I think thats because I'm not on good terms with either one yet, or because I'm still a rookie, I dunno], the only problem is translations, some text is still in russian, but nothing important, you can easily finish the main game without worry.

That is a Controller, rookie, one of the most feared mutaunts in the zone, I can't really tell you how to kill it other than shoot it till it's dead, but if you get to cover, it's effects can't hit you. I don't know if it's a glitch or not, but I rushed at one once, it didn't hit me with it's mind thing when I got close to it, but like I said, it may have been a glitch, don't try it unless you have no other option. Also, at that part, just run, run to the ladder, it won't get to you in time.

In SoC they have no close quarter attack, one of the best ways to kill them is to rush them with a knife from behind cover. Otherwise lean around corners and aim for the head, or use grenades.

It is brutally hard, and loading times are horrible at moments, but it's fun when you can stand up, and say you defeated something on master mode in AMK, each enemy is a chance at death, each blink could be your last, its that feeling of knowing how easily you can die, it gets the adrenaline pumping man.

"-Start with SoC (of course!). Try without mods first! Look for mods later. Proper play order is SoC > (CS) > CoP.
-ZRP (Zone Reclamation Project) is a fine mod for 1st timers, as it does not change gameplay or graphics, only fixes errors in the game.

-AMK 1.4 for challenge, atmosphere and more content. Complete 2009 for visuals and slightly easier gameplay. LURK for total overhaul.
-Play on a high difficulty. Master is the best. Improves AI and gun-damage, to both ways.
-Disable crosshair. Trust me, you don't need it, you don't want to hip-fire unless targets are just a few meters away from you.

-Check your other Options and key-bindings! Read the Manual! These can teach you more than you'd imagine.
-In the beginning, choose to get "Brainwashed", this gives you a short tutorial.
    -Read your in-game PDA often!

-In fights, always use cover. Stay low. Aim with your weapons. Set automatic guns to semi- or burst-mode for more accuracy.
-Aim for the head. From long distance aim to center mass.
-Select your ammo-type according the enemy. AP-rounds against most humans, regular ammo against mutants or less armored personnel.

-Don't hoard too much stuff with you. Vodka and food weight a ton, so don't have too much with you. Only loot what you need, or what you can sell quickly for some nice cash. Drop extra stuff to some stash to wait your return.
-Explore! You may find tons of free items, alternative routes and interesting things. Just remember to save often!"

Shadow Of Chernobyl: 1.0004 patch + Zone Reclamation Project 1.7 + Absolute Nature/Structures + Shaders Max + Darker Nights-mod OR Stalker Weather Overhaul 2.2.2. 3.1 is fine too, but I prefer 2.2's looks.

For 2nd playthrough, AMK1.4 + said graphical mods. Always on Master difficulty, or at least Veteran. Disabling the crosshair actually might help you to NOT try and snipe from the hip with crappy weapons.

Clear Sky: 1.5.10 patch + Sky Reclamation Project + AtmosFear + Absolute Nature/Structures + Pistol ironsights -mod + 10% more accuracy -mod.

For second playthru': The Faction War 2.9

Call Of Pripyat: AtmosFear 3 + Absolute Nature 3.
2nd playthru': Swarz mod, or I Work Alone, or wait for the Misery-mod to finish (74% done).

Look for mods from Moddb.com or Stalker Filefront. More Stalker modding help here:

Q: What will be the biggest difference between S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and the previous games, if any?
A: In brief, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will offer new story, new set characters (with some good old ones) and, of course, the new engine powering it.

Q: Will there be more of a survival element to STALKER 2?
    A:Yes.

Q:What features have been removed/compromised in the PC version due to the multiplatform release?
A:Since we develop primarily on PC, you won't see any compromises in the PC version. The key difference between the PC and console versions will be the beauty of graphics (meaning PC will offer more of visual effects).

Q:Will there be any new kinds of interaction with NPCs?
A: How do you mean? It's difficult to answer this one.

    Q:Will Sidorovich be in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2?
A:I will refrain from answering this one for now.

    Q:Will the faction wars return?
    A:No.

Q:Will the interface (inventory, map, etc) on the pc version suffer (like other games have) by trying to cater for console systems?
    A: No, whatsoever.

Q:Will there be any new mutants?
    A:Yes.

Q:How many weapons will be in Stalker 2?
A:It's difficult to give the quantitative figure at this point.

Q:Which part of the zone will it take place? Or is it the zone at all?
A:We'll be locating the game in the triangle of CNPP, the cities of Chernobyl and Chernobyl 2 (where the huge antenna is located).

Q:Is Zone going to be a large single ?
A:Let's postpone this question for now.

    Q:Will it support DX11?
    A:Yes.

Q:Will we see more X-Labs and secret underground complexes?
    A:Yes.

Q:Will GSC expand on the import-a-weapon feature introduced with Nimble, and allow players access to more varied and custom weapons from outside the Zone by importing them through specialist contacts?
A:We have some interesting new ideas on this matter.

Q:Will artifacts be something we can go out and transmute through Anomalies?
A:No. However, the area of artifact application will expand.

    >New interview (translation of a translation):

The development of STALKER 2 is at about 50% completion.

Early videos and screenshots will be revealed only 2 or 3 months before the release of the game. (Hopefully they're kidding.)

STALKER 2 will take place in a single, very large map, without loading times, and several different areas to cross. 50% of the map will consist of places already seen in previous episodes.

Strelok is the protagonist of the game, the player character.

The RPG aspect is even more present than in Call of Pripyat.

A port to the Xbox 360 is almost certain, but they are having more difficulty with the PS3 version. Regarding the latter, they will make a decision during 2012.

STALKER 2 might not have a multiplayer mode.

There will be no women in STALKER 2 (contradiction to what they said earlier).

During development, the emphasis is put on the sounds, animations, models, physics, and monsters. Sergiy also announced that there will be new weapons.

It may be possible to drive vehicles, but only to accomplish very specific quests.

The game will be moddable, as much as the previous ones.

The soundtrack of the game will be composed by MoozE, but not before the next 12 months.

Currently, 60 people are working on STALKER 2.

The budget for development is estimated at $3 million (it took 7 million for the first three episodes).

None of the first team to have worked on Oblivion Lost (the original project, not the mod) is left at GSC. Many of them left for 4A-Games to work on Metro 2033.

So I just downloaded Narodnaya Solyanka and it's working fine technically, but I can't get past the first 10 minutes of the game... The Astronomer tells me to go to the farmhouses over the hill to find some vodka to bribe the guards with, but I can't find the boxes he's talking about. Can anyone who's played the mod before help me out?

    1971 short story, "Roadside Picnic"

    1979 movie, "Stalker"

More emphasis on survival, throwing away a mag while it still has ammo in it throws away the ammo as well, possibly have to press R to reload the weapon instead of just pressing it, more need for cover, tents added, portal stash's.

Actually, it's the difficulty changes I balked at. Restoring content and allowing us into all parts of the Zone in a single game was excellent. I just don't get why the gameplay changes were necessary, at least not beyond what AMK already changed (generally for the better).

Actually, while AMK has a huge draw with it's difficulty, the most impressive thing it does is the STALKER NPC interactions. Long games of AMK are incredible because micro-factions start forming over NPC's friendships and rivalries, with you being as involved as any NPC.

I've wondered loads of things. Like hygiene. Ass wiping I guess can be done with bandages, even with hardmode mods you end up with more than you need.

Showering and soap is another thing. Getting soap should be simple enough, but finding clean water not so much.
