The film just premiered in America. Time to discuss this film from an AMERICAN perspective.

So, what did ya'll think?
>>
It was fucking terrible
>>
It was okay. Quite literally JUST okay.

There has never been a more OKAY movie. It wasn't even mediocre. It was just okay.
>>
I had a lot of fun. It was interesting to see the continuity nods to the events of the Avengers film, and I was surprised to find it the most comedic and light-hearted of all the Iron Man films. The trailers made it look like it was headed for Deep, Tortured Psyche Dark Knight territory. Don't be fooled.
>>
>>32654692 (OP)
i loved the movie till he confronted the mandarin and that just disappointed me with all that build up for some stupid joke.
>>
>>32654692 (OP)
Saw it in a packed theater and had a lot of fun. Some really cool suit-less fight scenes.
Not as good as the first but totally worth watching.
>>
Was fucking awful.

It was like they built up this great intro with this whole thing of Tony having PTSD but might actually be something more, and COMPLETELY IGNORED THIS IDEA AND HAD THE WORST FUCKING VILLAIN EVER.

I've never been so pissed at an ending ever. The fucking villain was some mary sue asshole that just destroyed his suits like they were tissue paper. He had nothing going for him as a villain.

Fucking Whiplash was done properly, he wanted vengeance for his family and made a suit to fight Tony. Meanwhile this random guy we only know a bit about and has a grudge against Tony is trying to kill him with his super ability to get hot. We know that repulsors work against him, yet Tony refuses to use them at fucking all.

Whiplash was a much better done villain.
>>
>>32654989
Also the whole thing of, grabbing his suit and it just shuts down for no fucking reason was retarded.

All it did was get hot. Whiplash's weapons worked on the same fucking principle but didn't shut down the fucking suits for no apparent reason.
>>
I had a blast, but there are so many nagging plot-holes that keep pestering me. Like, how did Guy Pierce survive the Mk 42 explosion, but croak from a smaller explosive? Was it because Pepper threw it *into* him? And how did all of Tony's suits have that new homing/self-assembly tech installed? He had just developed it, and it seems kind of impossible (even in this universe) for him to retro-actively outfit the old suits with the new hardware. But honestly, great movie imo.
>>
I thought it was great. It was dumb how subtly they addressed Tony's anxiety, though. He feels powerless among gods and indestructable monsters and aliens, because he's just a guy in a suit. But they never explicitly say that and that part at the end when he says "I am Iron Man" makes it seem like that was supposed to be a core theme throughout.
>>
I enjoyed it. I hated the plot twist with the Mandarin, but Ben Kingsley sold it enough that I wasn't too disappointed.

Also, I was disappointed that Stark didn't have superhuman Extremis sex with Pepper.
>>
>>32654692 (OP)
Haven't seen it yet.

it sucked.
>>
Disappointed they didn't go the real Extremis route
>>
Just got back from seeing this.

I thought it was pretty great, good ol' entertaining fun. Shane Black is the king of action films. Being spoiled about The Mandarian actually helped me enjoy the film more since I saw what was coming and I just focused on the rest of the film.

Hopefully this movie's success allows Shane Black to create another action film like The Last Boy Scout. You could tell how limited he was by the fact that he was making a Superhero Movie sequel and the PG-13 rating. I just got such a good feeling when Rhoades and Tony were spouting Shane Black-isms during the climax, felt like a much more over the top version of Lethal Weapon 2's ending.

Nerds are just butthurt over their "NOT MUH MANDARIAN" thing. I read comics, never really been an Iron Man fan but you guys are just stressing over nothing. Did you really think Shane Black was going to make a ultra grimdark SRS BUSINESS movie? You whine about how dark and serious Nolan's Batman trilogy was and when something lighthearted and fun comes out you complain about it too? What do you guys want?
>>
Campy piece of shit for casuals, and every good review on here is more fucking viral marketing.
>>
>>32654989
>Comic aspie nerd rage
>>
>>32655093
The branding of the in-name-only "Iron Patriot" should have raised some flags for you
>>
>>32654989
>Whiplash was a much better done villain.

Whiplash was pretty forgettable, if you ask me. Much like the entirety of Iron Man 2 outside of Sam Rockwell.
>>
>>32655120
Fuck, I mean Mandarin.
>>
I loved it. I bet comic fans are pretty pissed about the Mandarin thing, but I thought the whole movie was hilarious and well paced. Villain was pretty lame, but whatever, it's Marvel.
>>
>tfw the action scenes with Tony outside the suit were much more entertaining than the couple of ones with Tony in the suit.
>>
>>32654989
Whiplash was a crap villain. Iron Man 2 was the worst film in the entire avengers franchise.
>>
>Guy Pierce is so hot that his clothes burn off
Lel
>>
>>32655120
>You whine about how dark and serious Nolan's Batman trilogy was and when something lighthearted and fun comes out you complain about it too?
I think the problem is that the movie completely assfucks the Extremis story, which is one of the better Iron Man stories.

That particular story is dark as fuck so to see it being wasted in such a disastrous manner will naturally piss comic book nerds off.
>>
>>32655035
that really pissed me off how they made his armor easily destructible (pepper shut down one suit with a punch through the chest) and the super soldiers had super speed too so why the fuck didn't he die?
>>
>>32655277
None of the movies in the avengers franchise will ever go dark, so it's not "wasted" because there's no possibility of it being used in the way the comic book nerds want.
>>
>>32655298

I did like that one part during the final battle when you see Guy Pierce punch one of the suits, and his arm breaks, and he shakes it back into place with an audible "ugh!"

Was a nice touch amongst all the suits getting shredded like tinfoil.
>>
>>32655298

Yeah that was pretty lame. I guess they just did it so they could throw in as many suits as possible.
>>
I'm Australian but I'm gonna talk about it anyway.
I saw it today and it alright. The CGI with the molten people was pretty spectacular and there were a few funny scenes.
>>
>>32655035

Whiplash's weapons very nearly took down the Mk V. It burned straight through the arm.

You'd think that Tony would invest more time into making his suits more immune to incredibly hot things poking at them.
>>
I wish the varied suits had more of a role, like we only saw a couple of them for a second at a time and the ones Tony jumped into didn't seem to be anything special.
>>
>>32655361
the super soldiers powers varied every two seconds the shit made no sense why they could punch through one suite straight away or use super speed to dodge his attacks but other times they just grabbed him instead and made his suit hot
>>
>>32655414
Exactly, I felt they should have allowed each suit to shine more during the end; the fighting scenes were too quick and you could barely make out what was happening.
>>
>>32655414

I spent most of that fight trying to recognize suits, but gave up pretty quickly.

Would have been cool to see him jump into the Mk III again, but seeing as it was destroyed, meh.
>>
>>32655430
Different people different effects from Extremis? That was my way for explaining that mess. I was hoping Tony would use his Extremis armor to fly away at the end.

>>32655430

I just figured most of the suits were prototypes or unfinalized versions.

The big 7 were what Tony spent most of his time on. I took the rest of the armory to be his side-projects, and that he was pretty easily distracted with ideas for new suits so he went on sort of a quantity over quality binge.

But who the fuck knows
>>
>>32655476
the main baddy displayed all of the traits and it was somewhat explained with the suit hopping but other times he was just too damn close where one fast punch would end iron man easily.
>>
>>32655611
Thinking on it i suppose it makes sense for the woman since she was taunting him with her super speed but if they're all capable of this at different times in the movie it didn't make much sense
>>
So.... the american release had anything special like the shwarma scne in the Avenger?
>>
You know what bugged me the most about this? Last year stark loses a billion dollar skyscraper, and just a year later he dumps how much money on new suits, then loses them all, on top of his 115 million dollar house.
HOW THE FUCK IS HE NOT BROKE? There's no way in hell he can siphon off that much money into himself without embezzling off a gorillion bucks and there's sure as shit no way any insurance company could or would cover his losses.
>>
I don't read comics but I'm reading about Extremis on Wikipedia and according to that:

>"Maya tells Stark that Extremis is a military nanotechnology serum -- (yet another) attempt to recreate the Super-Soldier Serum"

Do most of Marvels superheroes have some relation to the Super Soldier Serum? Since I'm pretty sure Wolverine and The Hulk are related, is Spiderman related too?

Actually, I feel kinda bad now thinking of how many companies Stark bankrupted because of this.

This. I had a goddamn blast watching it, thank god they didn't go the "HURR SO SRS." They tried that shit with Iron Man 2 and it basically ruined that movie.
>>
I didn't see any of the other Iron Mans, but my friends were going and asked me to come, so I did.

The movie was alright, the cgi was decent, RDJ was pretty good in his role. The writing was light and fun. The action was all shit though. As others have said, the power of the super soldiers varying insanely. One second he has to blow up a restaurant to kill one, the next just a blast to face. They could have been a bit more consistent. Annoying, but not enough to ruin the movie.

My biggest gripe, and it is probably a problem throughout the Iron Man seires, is the reliance on deus ex machina. It felt like the whole movie was Stark getting written into a bad, possibly unescapable situation, and somehow the Iron Man suit(s) come to save the day.

Also it felt like they didn't quite have a solid foundation for the plot. Starks's ex-fuck buddy, appeared to be an important plot line, but it eventually evaporated with a pointless conclusion. His PTSD storyline disappeared too.
>>
I loved it, my favorite of the Iron Man trilogy and it had the best villain in my opinion. Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke were alright in Iron Man 2 (if not very memorable) and I can't hate Jeff Bridges in the first one, but Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley did a great job as the Mandarin (and no, he's definitely not like his comic counterpart, but that's alright, some of his magic shit is too ridiculous for these films anyway). He felt more like a legitimate threat I guess.

I also loved a lot of the humor in this one, not that it hasn't always been pretty spot on and clever, but they definitely upped the ante here.

Finally, who can fault the fan service they bombarded us with by having ALL of Tony's suits flying around kicking ass and blowing shit up. Just too fucking cool.

>>
>>32656242

>Thor
>>
>>32656277

Why didn't he just call the Avengers?
>>
I think Shane Black and RDJ got too caught up trying to make Kiss Kiss Bang Bang the second, right down to the narration. Fucking stupid idea.
>>
I just want to know, do they introduce The Wasp or Antman???

Just answer yes or no
>>
>>32656299
I never said magic wasn't too ridiculous (though Thor and Asgard aren't really magic), but you know how completely over the top comic books get (probably not, you seem too pleb for /co/, but still). The Mandarin has done some seriously absurd shit (not unlike most characters to be fair) that just wouldn't work. I think if they tried to be more faithful to the source material it would've come off as somewhat out of place with the universe they've established in these films. They have to keep it more down to Earth for Iron Man and Captain America except for when they're with the Avengers.
>>
>>32656374

No.
>>
>>32656374
yes or no
>>
>>32656382
Kinda a let down
>>
>>32656374
No. They'll probably get teased in either Thor 2 or Captain America 2. At least that's my bet. Avengers 2 will get teased in Guardians of the Galaxy.
>>
There's only one minor thing I can think of that's bothering me after seeing it.

When Tony is fighting that one Extremis chick, why doesn't he use that repulsor he had up his sleeve that he literally used like 3 minutes later against that other Extremis guy who was holding the kid hostage to deal with her?
>>
>>32656377
i don't see why they couldn't have just limited his powers so they're on the same level but the mandarin is basically using alien tech which make more sense in the iron man universe while Thor is more of a stretch in the avengers
>>
>>32656416

It was his ace-in-the-hole, and up until that point he was able to find a way to get around her without using it?

Or it's fucking science and he ain't gotta explain shit
>>
>>32656416
He didn't have the drop on her really and didn't want to risk missing the shot. It was safer bet to just blow her up.
>>

Isn't The Mandarin just a guy in a business suit nowadays anyway? I saw that the reveal kinda reflected that.
>>
It could have been better. I hate how they made the Mandarin into a fucking joke. And that Killian guy wasn't really that great either. Should have just left him out of the movie.
>>
It was one of those movies with some problems, but so enjoyable that I overlooked those problems for the most part while watching and just enjoyed it. Which is fine with me.
>>
>>32656476
The action was very well done, I agree.
>>
>people still referring to Ben Kingsley's character as The Mandarin

The movie didn't make The Mandarin into a joke. It's just that the guy who you initially thought was Mandarin was someone else.

After all, aren't Killian's last words him stating that HE is The Mandarin?
>>
>>32654692 (OP)

Saw it, Liked it. It was funny, Although I saw it with friends so that may have affected it
>>
>>32655611
The self-assembling Mk42 was a prototype.

The other suits were likely also all prototypes which he did not put much effort into testing, I suppose. We barely saw them in that final set-piece, aside from the proto-Hulkbuster and the one with the things on its arms.

> He's able to fight Thor, and Loki's goons in Avengers in his Mk7 and Mk8, yet here his suits can't even handle the melty men.

After what happened in Avengers and IM1, 2, and 3, self-destructing an army of suits seems somewhat unwise.
>>
>>32656693
Yeah, but that just makes him The Mandarin in name only.
>>
>>32656242
They could have found some way to write around the magic ten rings shit. Maybe he could have had some advance technological rings or something like that. Hell, I wouldn't even have minded if they gave the Mandarin some special dose of Extremis that gave him powers similar to what his rings did.
>>
Any one else a little confused by the end and its tie in with Avengers 2?
>>
also why the fuck did he blow up all those suits? I know they were probably just prototypes or whatever, but wouldn't have been kind of useful in the future with all these crazy extremis people and aliens and wormholes and shit to be able to call an army of suits to come help you at any time?
>>
>>32656693
I think the problem is that Ben Kinglsey looks like the way The Mandarin is portrayed in the comics and comes off as an evil genius terrorist leader. Then you find out he's just some old washed up actor whose mind is so addled with drugs and alcohol that he thinks the whole thing is just a big joke and that real Mandarin is a fire breathing scientist.

I personally have no problems with this, in fact I quite enjoyed how they decided to play with viewer expectations here and thought Killian was the best villain in the trilogy, but still, it does fly in the face of the comics and diehard fans of such things are all too cynical to just go with it.
>>
>>32656729
Thor is one of the most powerful marvel characters but he's usually holding back. but its still bullshit how strong they are one moment and weak the next
>>
>>32656818
The point he was making was, those suits aren't Iron Man. He is.
And he is done. He is not a hero. He is a CEO and a (probably) husband
>>
>>32656805
His rings are repurposed alien yech
>>
>>32656693
Given that a Mandarin is someone who wields power and influence without ever being seen, the twist makes alot of sense. A man calling himself "the Mandarin" would not expose himself in propaganda videos. I doing so he would cease to be a true "Mandarin".
I'm amazed so many people don't seem to have grasped the difference between a character being called something, and a character behaving in a manner making the term apt for that character.
>>
better than 2, much worse than 1. not nearly as good as the avengers, a little bit worse than thor and captain america.

the most enjoyable elements of the movie was the comedy, which was pretty spot on.

i didn't like the ending. the pepper pots stuff was dumb.
>>
>>32656806
No. Just showed that Tony is still in contact with them and friends with Bruce Banner and the ending was a nice way of saying that there probably won't be anymore stand alone Iron Man films (and Robert Downey Jr. has already implied this before anyway). He'll obviously at least be in The Avengers 2, but they may kill him off there since his contract with Marvel is just about over and no one knows if he wants to keep playing this character.
>>
>>32656879
It's the tease that's pissed people off
>>
>>32656901

>>
Wait, what happened to all the Ten Rings shit in the first film?
>>
>>32656755
That's the point; one character is the Mandarin in name only, the other is the Mandarin in his actions and philosophy.

> There's even a bit where said character says how he realized he could become more powerful by being anonymous, i.e a Mandarin.

This.

Just got back from watching it. was expecting dark iron man rises. I was pretty surprised how light hearted it was.

Some of the jokes were also spot on.

when stark told that kid to stop bring a pussy about his dad the whole theater lost their shit
>>
>>32656947
That's not going to work and you know it. RDJ IS Tony Stark, they cannot simply replace him and continue to churn out movies like nothing ever happened. And "rebooting" the character in a few years is a retarded idea.
>>
>>32656857
What happens if Thanos or the Chitauri show up at his doorstep? no more Iron Man?
>>
>>32656988

This.

Maybe not even have him die in Avengers 2. Maybe just have him retire. I feel like we're going to get to see him one last time.

As for Iron Man 3....i liked it a lot. I was a little upset about Mandarin and Rhodey not getting the Mark 2 War Machine.

I also feel like it didn't have that many epic scenes compared to the Avengers. They blew their load on the trailer with all of the suits appearing.

Pretty much my only complaint is the end battle. The suits were under used, they didnt display any different powers besides the difference in arms.

I was expecting to see the space suit take a bad guy into space and leave him up there, or the Hulk Buster to destroy a building. It was pretty weak.

But the whole movie was good. Lighthearted, funny, great action, and likeable characters. Even the villains were good.
>>
>>32656988
Who gives a shit if i think it will work it's not my decision but it sounded like they wouldn't reboot just replace him.

besides origin films about the same character every few years is annoying as shit.

>>32656857

no he destroyed them because he's tired of people stealing his shit.

he kinda implies this when he suitblocks warmachine. (Give me a suit!, Sorry they are only encoded to me.)

I AM IRONMAN is his way of saying hes already going to start building his nano-machine bone ironman armor.

he will use this as a plot device to add suspension in avengers 2 when something is going to kill him and we think hes dead he will burst out of a cloud of dust as IRONMAN.

jesus christ.
>>
I thought the way they killed the villain was bullshit. Alright, Tony captures him inside on the suits and causes it to self-destruct. That's fine. I kinda saw him coming back from that coming from a thousand miles away.

Then Extremis Pepper just kills him by kicking a exploding piece of Iron Man technology at him? How would that kill him anymore than him being inside of an exploding Iron Man armor would?

It's a superhero film. Of course the villain is going to be stock.

The only superhero movie villain that I thought was actually interesting was Loki in the Thor movie. Of course, The Avengers film turned him into a Saturday Morning Cartoon villain.

>>32656988
honestly, if marvel can get rights back for spiderman, then he can fill the comedy roll in the avengers if iron man retires. we've seen enough iron man by now anyways. i would hope they'd reboot spiderman for a third time just for the avengers movie canon, though. the raimi triogy was fine on its own, but this most recent version was horrible.

The War Machine will be in his own movie.

>>
To be honest, Killian turned out to be a better bad guy than how they probably would've done The Mandarin if they played him straight.

And like an above anon said, Killian was pretty much the Mandarin anyway. The guy in the comics is pretty much a dude in a business suit with the rings these days. People are just butthurt that they didn't get their cheesy comic book villain mastermind.
>>
>>32657772
lol Banner was asleep the whole time Tony told his story

So many ways they could go with that given how inconsistent he is in the comic. When I saw ben kingsley cast I knew he wasn't going to be a superhuman martial artist that could punch a hole in tony's suit

In a Questions and Answers session, Feige and Ruffalo confirmed that discussions are underway to produce another Hulk film due to positive audience response to Ruffalo's performance in The Avengers,[114] that a sequel might be possible in the future,[115] and that Mark Ruffalo had signed on for six Marvel films

Better yet, have Iron Man/Stark replace Nick Fury as the secondary SHIELD stand-in that's in nearly every movie (with the exception of the Avengers movies).

Marvel can focus on expanding the universe they're building - make Ant Man, maybe Dr. Strange and Black Panther, and go into Phase 3 with a larger roster for the Avengers and end it there
(which they won't, despite the fact that the superhero genre is a bubble just waiting to burst)
>>
>>32657436
He's taking a break, it kind of reflects RDJ's attituide towards the series - he wants to take a break from it all. Stark will be back as Iron Man, he just won't have dozens of suits for every possible occasion

/co/ fag here.

The extremis augmented badguy tore through Starks armor (and anyone else) in the comic pretty easily as well.

He was faster, stronger, better, and could breath fire.

He was the reason Ironman was forced to "evolve" from being just a man in a suit. Stark's fight with an extremis augmented ex-marine made him realize how vulnerable and limited he was.

The movie focused a bit too much on the "melting touch" shit and didn't focus enough on how much faster and stronger the augmented soldiers were.

>he extremis augmented badguy tore through Starks armor (and anyone else) in the comic pretty easily as well.
>He was faster, stronger, better, and could breath fire.

It was less about him being stronger and better, it was because even though the suit is better, Tony can't operate the suit fast enough as a human to react to what the extremis guy was doing.

He needed to upgrade in a way that allowed him to be completely one with the suit, where there is no 'lag' between Tony's thoughts, and actions.

All he did was get Extremis, sync up with his armor, pretty much the same armor he used in the first fight, and it was a complete turn around because now Tony could operate the suit fast enough to completely shut the guy down.

The math was also terrible. The formulas on the back of that note were nothing but inner-product space shit. If that's the kind of thing that can create super humans, then every stem major would have augmented themselves already. The producers could have at the very least hired some graduate students to throw in more complex looking formulas; grad students already work for peanuts.

/co/mic book nerd here. I got into iron man through (the very delayed) extremis arc back in 05 (and loved it). 400% okay with the way the story played out in iron man 3. to be honest, the story itself (extremis arc) is a little on the dull side in contrast to what they did in the film. I love warren, but the story is a very slow burn and extremly compact. if it would have gotten a semi-straight adaptation, 90% of the audience would have walked out or gone to sleep.

It's not an "undertone", though if the references didn't sorta advertise Avengers (Hey, kid. Watch Avengers to find out what's up with Tony!), it would've make the movie a bit more cohesive.

>2) They actually do explicitly say that.
Really, it seemed like the whole thing was specifically about the wormhole scene (the nightmare, what the kid said in that delusion), to do with his mortality more than "just being a 'regular' guy"..

The movie's first act was really far too serious, especially once the second act kicks in and the plot nosedives thanks to kids and LOL HERES THE REPORTS YOU MAGICALLY NEED.

I'm a little confused by the timing and geography. Tony Stark's place was in Malibu, CA, correct? So after Mandarin attacked his place, Pepper and the Botanist got in a car and drove to a hotel somewhere, right? Where was that hotel? Close enough that Guy Pearce's character was able to pay them a visit, grab Pepper, and take her to somewhere in Florida (not far from Miami, where the president was going to be killed.) So did they drive to Florida? Or did Pearce drive an unconscious Pepper to Florida?

How long was Tony in Tennessee? It was night during ever scene there, so all his scenes took place in one night? If so, all the travel from CA to FL took place super fast!

>>
>>32668775
I liked how instead of the fusion reactor on his chest he chooses to power up the suit with a car battery, because that makes more sense.

The whole fucking I was never in any danger pissed me off. Yeah I could just use one of my suits to fly to Florida, they all somehow survived the explosions, but instead I think I will drive, and wait for this new prototype suit to recharge part way. Fucking why? Why didn't he just grab all or at least some of the suits earlier in the film. Why didn't he protect himself with one, and better with another. For a genius he sure isn't very smart. And also why did all the suits he get in seem to break like paper. I understand as some of you said they were prototypes, but you think various prototypes would have different issues, not they all work perfectly fine but any time they get touched they fall apart.

i think the biggest issue the film had (other than the crappy twist ) was all the plot holes.. I think it has like 20+ plot holes that by the end just broke the movie for me. for example tony stark escapes and sees the bad guys getting away in a chopper... but oh no because the story needs it he now cant fly of shoot his guns. or how about the fact that they only call the vice pres.. oh lets not bother calling shield or the army to come help us out or give us a lift lets just call the only other guy who's in on this. or how about the fact that everyone's watching his house before and during the attack but 1>no help come 2> no one goes after the choppa that just flies off despite everyone knowing its from the mandarin and everyone's looking for him and 3> no one sees irony man escape and everyone thinks his dead... what no one saw what happened or what...
