I agree. Most Tarantino fanboys tend to disagree, though. Not enough pointless dialogue and shallowness.

Tarantino's characters are realistic in the sense that they talk about random bullshit. Real people talk about more than "the plot".

It's his most mature movie, probably why his fanboys hate it. It's missing the gimmicky dialogue and senseless violence.

I keep seeing a lot of people say this is the best Tarantino film. Now I disagree, I think it's Pulp Fiction, but I'm willing to be open minded. Explain why it's the best.

There's plenty going on in Reservoir Dogs. Like people quote Mr. Pink's tipping speech all the time without realizing that he thinks he's better than the waitresses at these places, even though he mentions he was once like them. And how Mr. Pink berates the others for acting like amateurs and prides himself on being a professional thief.

And how there's a father-son thing going on between Joe and Mr. Blonde.

Just about every bit of dialogue in that movie is used to develop the characters.

    ..two words?
    >> Anonymous 04/07/10(Wed)01:00 No.8264349
I like Jackie Brown but it's the least like a Tarantino movie. I realize that this isn't a bad thing for some people but for a director who's known for having a unique sense of style (Yeah yeah, I know, no need to start an argument over this) it kind of feels out of step. And apparently, this makes it more mature even though a lot of what he's doing here he had done much better in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.
    >> Anonymous 04/07/10(Wed)01:03 No.8264393
    >>8264271
The tipping scene is even deeper than that. Mr Pink shows that he doesn't care about what happens to other people, which is why he doesn't tip, but also that he thinks society is is a broken system. That means he doesn't need to take part. He doesn't feel bad about stealing or shooting cops because it's all part of something rotten.

Mr White on the other hand, really wants people to like him and think of him as a good guy, especially women. So he tips well and calls the waitress sweetheart etc.

Watch the whole diner scene carefully and Mr Blonde in particular. You'll notice that he laughs at inappropriate times. It's because he's a total psychopath, he has no empathy with anyone else, so he doesn't know how to take part in the conversation properly, so he hides with laughing.
