Poop is reminiscent of the Pop Art movement of the 1960's. As hundreds
of Youtube Poop videos have been uploaded and continue to upload to
Youtube, this serves as a demonstration that Youtube Poop has become a
movement of it's own.
"In (Pop Art), images made popular by
mass-media advertising and comic strips, and other everyday objects,
such as pop bottles, beer cans, and supermarket products, are presented
in bizarre combinations, distortions or exaggerations of size, always
rendered with fidelity to the original human-made object. The effect of
these works, as in the case of Andrew Warhol's Campbell Soup Cans or Roy
Lichtenstein's grotesquely magnified comic-strip heroes and villains,
is to cause the viewer to react in a manner best described as a double
take. As with Abstract Expressionism, the observer is again involved
directly in the work of art, but now by the frequency with which the
observer sees these commonplace items in everyday life and not only as
an experienced sensation of the art form itself. The blurring between
the realm of art and real life in Pop Art is more pronounced in the
recent pop-originated Happening.
Since similar experiences were
promoted by the Dadaists in 1916, some Pop artists have also been called
Neo-Dadaists. But whereas Dada was nihilistic, self-exterminating, and
satirical, Pop Art seems to have little such purpose. Instead, there is
more joyful enthusiasm for exploring the possibilities implied by the
daily images and objects of a megalometropolitan society and culture."
