  • Since I've been on a Q&A kick in /a/ and /r9k/ recently, I've decided to set up a formspring account for publicly answering 4chan related questions. You'll find it linked in the navbar as "?", and located here: formspring.me/4chan. Also, if you use Twitter, please follow @4chan. As always, I can be contacted via e-mail at moot@4chan.org (Despite the common misconception, I check it frequently and read every message I receive. Nobody seems to e-mail me about anything other than being banned though ;_;)
EDIT: Site went down due to a hardware issue. Should be fixed now.

How does this ruin the original? Nothing has changed about the original, it still exists, exactly as it was when it was released. People that think remakes "ruin" the original are fucking retards.

The main thing I noticed from the new trailer is that Jackie Chan actually takes to kid to a magical kung fu village filled with shaolin monks and shit doing crazy martial arts.

In the original the kid was an underdog because you wonder if doing chores for an old asian man can translate into winning a tournament. In this one if the kid can't win the tournament considering his circumstances he is retarded.

I heard of the remake sometime ago last year, but I never saw the trailers until now. The original Karate Kid movie had a Japanese actor training a white teenager in America. I actually saw the original film before so I know.

Now in the remake, the movie is set in mostly in China. You have a black kid struggling to fit in. It's similar to the original film. But in the remake, he's being bullied because of the color of his skin (by the way it looks like it) in the trailer.

The Karate trainer lives in China instead of one who moved from Japan to America. Jackie Chan as a actor in that role makes sense because he was born in the region. As for Kung-Fu, I think it's a form of Karate in my opinion.

So yes, I am looking forward to this modern remake.

    >> Anonymous 02/25/10(Thu)22:46 No.7418211
It's an incredibly poorly judged remake is what it is.

Kid's too young for the story to be effective, it's about kung fu but it's called the karate kid otherwise it loses the whole purpose for it's exsistence (brand recognition).

It's also kind of creepy in a child beauty pageant way in that it's designed to make a mini me star out of Will Smiths kid.

Quite the opposite in fact. Karate is a form of Kung-fu, seeing as how Kung-fu simply means martial art.

Anyways, Will Smith's son probably just signed up for this movie because it's a good learning experience over anything else. I mean you get to learn Kung-fu! And probably from Jackie Chan too! Who would turn that down.

did anyone else notice how jackie chan saves him from the schoolyard bullies in the begining? by beating the shit out of a couple of 12 year olds who were harassing another 12 year old?

this is another reason why it wont work. the original was half a love story, and the bullies were 17 year olds on dirt bikes, they could do some real damage if they wanted. making everyone 12 just waters it all down with shit.

It's not wrong, but then again if you were a movie star there's only two ways to go at it:
    1) Full support to your children, give them a leg up whenever you can.
    2) Refuse them support and make them work for everything.

Everyone says 2) is better because it builds character, but it will most likely also make your children hate you.
