I disagree with the comparison... very much. The films were extremely different. The only thing that really connects them is the general panic idea, but most of Cloverfield is the group trying to run away from the monsters.

I will grant you that they are a lot more similar than I previously thought, but you got to admit running through falling buildings, handheld camera for entire movie, and a 30 story tall monster are a far cry from mass panic in a major city, one man's desperation as he deals with a crazy situation, and 25 years of technological advancements separating the two.

Miracle Mile and Anthony Edwards are miles above Cloverfield and JJ Abrams, I will give you that no question, but the films do have some serious differences too.

I think Miracle Mile is a lot better, but I think I can say that fairly because I associate Miracle Mile with a desparate man making his way through panic striken hoardes of people, while I associate Cloverfield with a modern take on the classic monster movie (the latter interests me a lot more).

Even after you juxtaposed them for me, especially the helicopter sequence which I had never thought of like that before, it's hard for me to see them as too similar in a general, thematic sense.
