It's
true, though. Haiti is corrupt as fuck. They were having coups well
into the 20th century because each leader was squandering money and
siphoning it into his Swiss bank accounts ala Tropico and the criminal
element in the country runs rampant. Combine that with the natural
instinct to stockpile supplies in a disaster situation and the fact
that their pre-disaster infrastructure was already a goddamn mess, and
you've got a perfect recipe for supplies not reaching the people who
need them most. You know that "World Vision" stuff, where you give
money and they used it to buy food and tools for the African villagers?
Yeah, they stopped doing that when they realised that as soon as they
left, armed thugs would come in and take everything from the villagers
(so now they give them grain and build wells, things that thugs can't
take). It's not the fact that they're black that is causing this, its
because of how colonial empires imposed governance upon a population of
people who hadn't naturally developed their way to it. These people
never went through a period of enlightenment themselves, like we did in
the 1700s/1800s up until now. So you always have people in power who
think of no one except themselves, and criminality that is never held
responsible. |
