What's the utility of news channels, /tv/? They are all so fucking biased that nobody can actually take them seriously.

    Pic related, the champion.

Fox News is like the mouthpiece of the Republican Party. It is the most blatant of them all.

But the point of the thread is, they are all fucking biased. Why do people even watch them anymore? They suck as news sources. Are we Americans that retarded?

There's nothing you can do about it by bitching on /tv/. If you want to do something, go get into politics. It really isn't as hard as most people think. Otherwise, kindly shut the fuck up.

I basically swore to avoid cable news networks

Now I'm a poli sci major, and I chose a class about the media

Look what I have to do my paper on:
    >Topic 1. Coverage of specific international developments and events by MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News. Term Paper is due: no later than April 29th

It's gonna be painful watching this tripe
    >> Anonymous 01/19/10(Tue)17:55 No.6761757
Yep. Wolf Blitzer didn't fact check SNL when they criticized Obama, because he's not biased.
Rick 'I killed a man once" Sanchez doesn't spew his filth all over the network either.
Let's not forget Olbermann, Maddow, and Matthews with their large amounts of racial guilt.

Yeah, it's just FOX News guys.
    >> Anonymous 01/19/10(Tue)17:55 No.6761769
News in the US is a fucked up business model. They all exist to sell advertising, therefore their only people they care about are the corporations that buy ad spots. You're not the consumer, you're the product that is being sold.

They need to have a subscription based news channel with no advertising.

Somewhere along the last twenty years, American politics has devolved into two groups of fans in a football stadium, chanting slogans, waving banners, poking fun at injured players, shouting angrily at one another (and each other) occasionally. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Cable news networks, which at the time were still searching for a reason to exist, have been eager to provide an outlet for the mud-slinging.

At this point it's hard to believe that anyone really gives a fuck about anything anymore. It's rather depressing to be able to laugh at morons holding up traffic in San Francisco as some sort of ludicrous protest against the Iraq War, only to see the dipshits on the other side do basically the same sort of nonsense with 'tea party' rallies. Doesn't anyone in America have lives that are worth living?

    >At this point it's hard to believe that anyone really gives a fuck about anything anymore.

American political science nerd here. I completely agree with the comparison of the two-party political party system, and I want nothing more than to bring it down. And why do I care? Really I hate American culture and almost all Americans, but it is necessary to keep America from sinking terribly into shit. If America would to fall completely apart, it would have a detrimental effect on the entire world.

That's why I care. There are still some of us who, cliche as possible, would like to save the world. I probably won't be successful without degrading myself to either parties, but I'm going to try regardless.

There is "good bias" and "bad bias".

"Good bias" is whatever is made in the name of humanity. That is, left-wing networks, or at least those that are in favor of the people. "Bad bias" is the right-wing that seeks to maintain things as they are.

I'm not opposed to "good bias". It is a necessary evil.
