Usenet is pretty fast although there is some work involved if you want older content. I haven't used it myself but have heard from some friends and random /g/entlemen that this is usually the case. Lurking/asking around loads of different binaries will eventually yield the results you're looking for.

Google "usenet guide" and go from there.
/g/ might help you or more likely troll you a bit, but seriously googling for more info is probably the best thing.

and yeah, astraweb is the provider you pay a monthly fee too, then you get any client and setup your account info there, and use nzb indexing sites to search stuff

nzb is kinda like a torrent, it tells the application where in usenet to get the files from, so you basically download a small nzb file and 'feed' it to your client

also, make sure you tell the client to use all 20 provided connections, this will guarantee max speed. you can also use a secure server and enable SSL to avoid ISP traffic shaping. There are also 2 servers you can choose from based on your location - a US server or a European server.

I've been using sabnzbd+ for a while now with no complaints.

I use it for several reasons:
1. auto par2 repair (it can add the large par2 repair files as paused, then only download the needed ones, if they're needed)
2. also, after successful repair, it can auto extract, and then auto del remaining pars/rars
3. it has RAM caching, aka it can download the temp files directly to RAM and then decode resulting file to HDD (instead of hdd->hdd, tl;dr if you download tons of shit it would be healthier for the hard drive and also faster)
it has other nice built in features. by default it looks messy though, but you can make it not visually-suck pretty easily. the rar included in a previous posts contains screenshot and a short .txt file of how to setup it properly
