    I fucking hate this movie.

    Fucking HATE it.

    Not trollan' either.

The plot is so idiotic and purposely confusing, and worst of all, I had to watch it with a bunch of idiots who spent the rest of the night trying to analyze this bullshit film.

There's nothing to analyze because the writers didn't GIVE you anything except a boring movie, a nonsensical plot, and a bunch of scenes that tried way too hard to be trippy, but just ended up being "OH GOD THERES A GUY IN A BUNNY SUIT WTF" or "OH SHIT THERES SHIT COMING OUT OF HIS CHEST OH SHIT"

Fuck this movie, and fuck anyone who likes it.

i agree with his guy, 6/10 , i saw it on showtime (stealing cable at the time)but it didn't make a lick of sense but it looked cool, and a cool performance by Patrick Swayze as a pedo, and the the whole scene with jake whacking off that was hilarious.
    >> Anonymous 12/03/09(Thu)23:36 No.5922144
i agree with OP's points though he needs to get his words out better.

He's trying to state that the film's integrity was lost through purposefully "wierd just for the sake of wierd" moments such as the bunny suit.

While the plot may have been a good one, the only real reason people praise this movie is for the sake of the purposefully "wierd just to be wierd" parts. The true hype is not from its plot, it idealogy or message, its from the hot topic kiddies who think it is dark and edgey for serious and mature kiddies like themselves.

Film was trash, so trashy people hype it up. Makes sense, move on. You are basically speaking to the bottom of the barrel (or dumpster) by posting this here.

While I agree this movie isn't deep, I think it's just the fact that you watched it with a bunch of bros.

It's a good movie with a decent plot. It's actually a bit entry level dude. If you can't get the plot of this movie, I'd hate to see you try to understand something by, say, Charlie Kaufman (Elementary Level) Stanley Kubrick (Intermediate level) or David Lynch (Sophomoric level). I've yet to see something in the master level, but I hear someone like Godard is supposed to be at that kind of level. Never seen anything by him though.
    >> Anonymous 12/03/09(Thu)23:38 No.5922173
It's only confusing because of how much they were forced to cut it. If you watch the director's cut it makes perfect sense.

    OP here,

you got me all wrong. I love David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick. Especially Kubrick, because those fuckers actually, you know, try and SAY something with their weird fucking films. Some actual meaning to it is there.

And Lynch and Kubrick have actual genuinely weird fucking shit in their films, like, weird fucking shit. Not guys in bunny suits in the mirror. That's not weird, and that's not profound.

I agree, fuck this movie. It creates its mythology by making you read pages of that goddamn book. And then it uses that book as a basis for all of the supernatural shit that happens.
I think the reason most people think it is very deep is because they don't understand the supernatural shit.
And of course when they don't understand something that looks cool it must be cool.
Its just a lame teenage love story with really shitty time travel in it that people HURR DURR on and clap at.

His earliest and latest are his most accessible. Just watch the classics first, Breathless, Band of Outsiders, and Alphaville to start. Then watch his early lesser-acclaimed (better) films like La Petit Soldat and Les Carabiniers. His newest film Notre Musique is pretty entry-level too. STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE LATE 60'S/EARLY 70'S FILMS until you've seen those.

Y'know OP, I feel similarly about The Shining.

Goddamn that movie sucks. It's neither scary nor suspenseful. It tried too hard to be "disturbing" and just wound up being stupid. It's mind numbingly dull. The kid can't act, Shelley Duvall is a horsefaced bitch. I enjoyed Nicholson's performance as much as the nexy guy, but he couldn't save this movie from sucking.

I liked the Director's Cut less.

I had an alternate mythology for the film which still managed to work. It's actually centered around Frank.

I don't think it was ever really explored, but Frank the Bunny had Donnie target those people and things which tormented him while alive.

Think about Frank taking a turn or ten in the "kiddie porn dungeon" -- no wonder he's so fucked up and full of rage. Then he goes to pull some dumb shit and gets KILLED by this Darko kid for accidentally running over this girl, which is bad, but maybe not Shot In The Fucking Face bad.

So this rift opens up and Frank sees his chance ... what if he can lead Donnie around? Donnie's the perfect stalking horse and, if he pulls it off right, Frank lives ...

    Just a thought.

Mostly I liked it because it was a good period piece. Those fucking cheesy counselors in that time period were all over the place, just as an example, and it was nice to see a movie pay attention to the kind of that kind of bullshit we saw so much of in the late 80s.

Donnie Darko wasn't bad. I think it was an excellent example of a writer-director with a grand vision that exceeded his actual abilities.

Also not being an underageb& and remembering the 80s means I nostalgia constantly when watching it.

Does it have plot holes you could drop a 747 engine through? Oh yeah. Is it as good as Darkofags keep screeching it is? Of course not. But it's gotta be one of the most perfectly atmospheric and interesting movies I've ever seen. (especially when you haven't read the godawful little booklet that explains everything, and it's a fucking stupid explanation, robbing you of the mystery that makes it so much fun.)
