    Something I've always wondered.

When Cypher was eating that steak with Agent Smith in the Matrix, was anything being pumped into his system or was he just under the illusion that he was being fed? Either way, wouldn't this mean that instead of eating "the same goop" day after day for years on end like he was complaining about, couldn't they just make a program with any food they'd want to taste, and maybe just eat the goop to actually get full?

Cypher's whole reason for going back to the Matrix never really made much sense to me. I mean at least in the real world he can jack into programs where he can do anything he wants with whoever he wants in perfectly realistic simulations, whereas in the Matrix he'd have to trust that the Agents keep up their end of the bargain and that his life wouldn't suck once he was in there.

He wants his innocence back. He believes, however foolishly, that he can be entirely stripped of the knowledge that the Matrix isn't real and the world is a burnt out wasteland.

It was less about the food, and more about him having the knowledge that the world was shit.

He wanted his memories wiped, and to resume living like a normal person.

I assume, although they never actually showed it, that they could simulate food. I mean, if Mouse can make a program where you can fuck the Woman in Red, I assume he can make one where you can eat steak.

If a global thermonuclear war erupted, would the agents intervene?

I can see you in your darkened room, wearing sunglasses and a trenchcoat. Possibly sipping some tepid water that has been at your desk for the past few days. Your room smells like doritos and balls.

I've always wondered this too. And what about regular war where hundreds of thousands died? That's entire crops being lost. Seems inefficient. Also, what happens when a couple has a child? Do the agents just introduce a clone that has the combined genetic traits of the parents and looks like them both in and out of the Matrix? WHY?

How many people who die in wars do you actually see in person?

Well, the why is obvious. They have to maintain the illusion. I'm guessing that the infant is fake up until the point where the machines can introduce the embryos they grow into the Matrix. After that they probably flip a switch or "upgrade" the fake baby to the real one now plugged in.

    >Also, what happens when a couple has a child?

I assume they have one of their harvester robots grab some sperm from the dad, and an egg from the mom, and grow a baby in a new pod.

I'd imagine they fairly closely control how often women get pregnant in the matrix to match their power requirements.

You're kind of missing the point. I mean what if in the Matrix war breaks out and thousands of people go off to kill each other, bomb the shit out of each other and what have you? Are you saying the agents interfere and save them and just put them somewhere else? Seriously?
