Why does Australian television suck so much?

Is there one fucking asshole controlling everything, installing his bad taste?

What have we got to look forward to: Simpsons and Two and a Half Men reruns, fucking Rove McManus, the 7PM Project with probably the most unlikeable bunch of fuckshits on Australian TV at the moment, Bert fucking Newton, the Spearman Experiment with that fat fuck Magda, A Current Affair and Today Tonight's childish rivalry, subpar and lackluster teenibopper shit with a sci-fi theme, and the shittiest "movie of the week" lineup I've ever seen: Shawshank Redemption AGAIN, and maybe some shitty Nicolas Cage movie from 2006.

Throwing my TV away...seriously what's the point? Even shows that are into their second and third seasons everywhere else haven't even aired yet in Australia...and I get berated for torrenting. And the Australian networks try to trick us by saying shit like "STRAIGHT FROM THE US" when it's almost always 3 weeks behind.

Bah. Australian TV has sucked since the 90s. Anyone remember when Saturday and Sunday nights were something to look forward to?

I'm sorry, OP. What did you say?

Well, at least you have it much better than the British. They get American shows a year later than the US.

Yeah, but at least most of your television isn't plagued by shit. You have some pretty decent shit.

ABC (especially ABC2) + SBS + ONE HD are the saviours of FTA TV.

I don't get SBS any more because I live in the worst signal blackspot ever (Pine trees + bottom of a deep valley) which sucks because I miss all those wacky foreign films and the awesome voice over guy. You knew you were in for a good night when he cheerfully said there was nudity.

But yeah Channel Torrent > all that though.

THEY STILL SHOW THAT SHIT THERE?

We get 11 month old Rachel Ray and Ellen episodes in Ireland.

    13 month actually not 11.

They're in a pissing contest with a similar show that airs at the same time (Today Tonight). They basically try their best to undermine the other show by providing contradicting views and being blatantly contentious to other reporters.

Basically TT: "Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are welfare cheats!" ACA: "OR ARE THEY?"

Hey OP, I'm thinking about moving to Australia and have a couple of questions...

    How bad is your internet?
Does it rain much, I like rain?
Is it more warm than cold during the year, or barely cold at all?

Last two must depend on the region, but how about a place like Melbourne?
    >> Anonymous 10/16/09(Fri)22:03 No.5225198
You think you got it bad? They TV in NZ 3 times as bad. New episodes of HIMYM here are from 2007

    >How bad is your internet?

It's good to mediocre. But you pay a lot for the good stuff. For example: I've got cable that can download a 700MB file in an hour. Not the best, but not bad either. This costs me $65 a month. For broadband it can range from $20-50 a month.

    >Does it rain much, I like rain?

Depends on the month...rains a lot in April and December where I live (Sydney).

    >Is it more warm than cold during the year, or barely cold at all?

It's warm, hot, cold...it varies on the coast. It's more "mild" typically. It can get cold, but I had no idea what cold was until I visited Europe during the winter. Felt like I was gonna die.

    >Last two must depend on the region, but how about a place like Melbourne?

Melbourne is great. The further south you are from Sydney the more you'll like it. Also think about Hobart, Tasmania.

In capital cities it's passable. I live in Newcastle (which is about two hours out of Sydney) and there's ADSL2+ on most telephone exchanges here. Basically the bigger the population the more likely you are to get decent internet. Capital cities are where the super good stuff is at, though.

It rains a bit in Melbourne. The weather there can be schizophrenic...

Depends what you call "hot" and "cold". It will probably top 40ºC on the hottest days in a Melbourne summer, but then again it will probably get to -5ºC in the winter. The entire city will not be covered in snow, though. Weather doesn't work like that in this hemisphere.

My girlfriend's from Australia. Just do what her brother -and in turn, what she benefited from- does. Get a massive external hard drive, look at what's popular or getting good ratings, learn the times they premiere in America, then download them an hour later from torrent networks. Problem solved, you now have access to every show and movie on Earth, on your schedule, when you want it, without commercials.

He also has/had -I forget if it's still up- a share network set up with a neighbor so they could swap back and forth anything the other downloaded without effecting their bandwidth.
