Hey, /tv/, it's me, Simoun Pegg. You know it's the real me because I spell my name with an extra U. I just decided to pop by so I could tell you all the reasons why Zombieland is bullshit.

    1. Fast zombies. This alone is the death of the genre. When I as a kid, zombies couldn't run, but now for some reason, they can. Makes no sense.
    2. They say the Zed-word like five thousand times in the film. This isn't to be done. If you've seen my film, you know that this is a no-no, because I made a rather subtle joke about it.
    3. It shits all Shaun of the Dead. It's funnier. It's got better action. I'd like to say my movie was scarier, but no zombie film has ever been scary, really. I always assumed that my movie would be THE zombie comedy of the decade, but now it's rather apparent this is the case.

I could go on and on about why Zombieland is boullocks, but you get the picture. Go see Shaun of the Dead, it would make me happy.

zombies speak a lot more to a culture's loss of identity and self. the zombie hordes represent a dramatic societal shift, leaving many feeling out of place, desperate to consume and fit in again.

Frankenstein is a fairytale about pride.

Even though Zombieland did a lot of things better than Shaun of the Dead and they're both zomedies, I like them both.

Arguing about which one is better is just missing the point. They're both good.
    >> Anonymous 10/03/09(Sat)23:43 No.5069004
    Almost no zombies?!?!

First ten minutes: three fast zombies
First 30 minutes: three fat zombies, a hot secretary zombie and his neighbor he killed with a toilet cover.
    First hour: Bill Murray
Last twenty minutes: About four hundred fucking zombies.

Plus a clown zombie, which we all knows is +1000 points.

    >>5068983
Fast zombies are scary. Slow zombies are not.

Fast zombies = Fear of being eaten.
Slow zombies = a metaphor for the lethargic distruction of the world and the horror of the end of mankind. The realization of the end of humanity.

It's really just a matter of taste.

I can't decide which was funnier, Shaun or Zombieland. I do have to give it kudos for not starting with a group of survivors that get picked off one at a time, so I think zombieland finally separates the zombie-movie from being a take-off of the slasher horror flick.

You are forgetting that Shaun purposely followed the trends previous zombie films have set.

In terms of originality, creativity, and execution, Shaun of the Dead takes a huge festering shit on top of Zombieland.

I'll admit there were funny jokes and the delivery of the 'rules' were interesting
But then to counter that, the rules were so generic and a LOT of the jokes were terribly written and even more terribly delivered.

Overall, Zombieland did not separate itself from any comedy or any zombie film, but still had enough jokes and enough clever bits to not reduce it to a pile of fuck laying in my toiletbowl.

    7/10

That's the reason it was any good at all. It was a parody because that's as good as a comedic zombie film will get. It took the genre-defining clichés and sprinkled on very funny jokes and very creative sequences.

Not Another Teen Movie did not have very funny jokes or very creative sequences. It also had really shitty writing and from what I remember, bad acting and directing.

The best thing about SotD was the amount of perfectly pulled off callbacks and running jokes it was able to tastefully pull off in what, 100 minutes? What makes it better than most other films is that you can see it 5 times and still not notice every little joke and every meaningful detail the creators put into the sets and dialogue and events.

Why is there so much love for Shaun of the Dead? It was only funny until the protagonists realized what was going on. Then it became a simple "to the pub!" journey, followed by them hiding.

Even the ending was just ... anticlimactic.

Nobody likes Pegg's movies, nor do they like the characters he plays in those movies. What they do like is the character of Simon Pegg. He seems like an everyday nerd who gets to create in television and film, which is all of /tv/'s aspiration. Even if it's all mediocre, that's okay, because anything we would do in his position would be mediocre too.

This. Zombies(especially fast zombies) are the only movie monsters that have ever scared me. They are people, except they're impervious to pain, without survival instincts, and utterly relentless. Not to mention being eaten alive has to be one of the most gruesome ways to die.

It's acknowledgement vs. disbelief & varied acceptance.

Zombieland->All about acknowledgement and fucking living with it.

SOTD->Disbelief until you get a fucking clue and then acceptance.

Zombieland is funny because's it's what everyone wishes they where doing when the zombie apocolypse happens. SOTD if funny because it's basically sucking Romero's dick with british humour.

    Both movies are awesome.

Now Simon...you back to England and produce something funny again. You last couple of movies have sucked.
