59 KB I'm I the only one that feels like most primetime tv does not appeal to me? Anonymous of College Park,MD 09/24/09(Thu)23:11 No.4950563
Despite having expended cable in my dorm (I live in a university dorm), most primetime TV does not appeal to me at all. Everytime I switch on the TV there’s always an abundance of crime/murder, legal, medical dramas, sitcoms, and reality shows. Even the popular programs like Heroes, Desperate Housewives, 30 Rock, Dollhouse, Bones, Supernatural, Gossip Girl: Those shows have little appeal to me. Even the science-fiction programs if good, get canceled. And when there’s something interesting that does not fit either of the mold it will get canceled within a season or two.

(Seriously, how do Americans learn to enjoy these programs? It’s the same concept.)

Out of those shows: I'm looking forward to Law and Order, Law and Order: SVU, Glee, Trauma, Southland, Community,Flash Forward ,and Modern Family. As for PBS, their primetime offerings either consists of imported mystery dramas from Britain (out of the BBC, PBS could have imported more drama shows, even outside from BBC, from ITV!), NOVA, Nature, antiques road show, and, (now it feels once a week) these pledge break specials.

Even on cable, it's mostly more of the same, in addition to reruns, and bowdlerized movies, and the good stuff, especially the same programs in HD, (which I have no option of having for the expended cable channels, except for the broadcast channels in the clear via Clear QAM, and yes I have a HDTV) you have to pay more, and practically have to subsidize the channels I have no interest in watching.

The main reason for this is because when I got too old for PBS Kids and too smart for the programing on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon when I was 12, I felt like the only option was the primetime programing on cable and the broadcast channels, and many of the programs they offered did not appealed to me at all for the same reason in the first paragraph. At the time, I had video games, but it was not an option during school days, and I was often stuck in the house after homework (I was too young for a drivers license, I had no job, and lived in an area where the major areas of where teens are were accessible by car only) ,so I often leave the TV on for background noise and most of my free time was consumed by the internet.

To this day (I'm in college now as an adult aged 21), most of the time I have the tv on as background noise while on the internet or studying for my classes in college. Because most tv does not appeal to me at all.

Do you have the same feeling as me?
    -------------
tl;dr: Most prime time tv programs do not appeal to me, even the popular ones since I graduated from PBS Kids. I mostly use tv as background noise.

(In before video games, Xbox 360 and iTunes has HD programs, torrents, YouTube, Hulu , DVDs (because I have plenty and to be honest I have not even watching all of my collection)

man if lack of tv shows inspired you to write all this, maybe you should just turn it off and go the gym

I meant to type the subject as: "Am I the only one that feels like most primetime tv does not appeal to me?"
