In fact, the sequels in general just beat you over the head with everything that made the first movie great, ultimately detracting from it.

I rented it around 2000 and was vaguely interested in the plot, but couldn't understand why the robots needed humans specifically. I mean, wouldn't cows be more compliant and easier to control? Also, that specific action scene was cool at the beginning as he was entering the building and started fucking shit up, got retarded when he started doing unnecessary rolly pollys.

Anyway, I made the "mistake" of seeing Equilibrium first and found it to be a little deeper than the Matrix so I found it to be a better film. For its genre that is.

.... the directors said what their influences were, including those mentioned anime movies. You should watch ghost in the shell and realise it is an animated FILM. Some of the most realistic animated scenes. Before The Matrix came out non animated movies couldn't come close to achieving some of the things GiTS and Akira achieved. This is what was said at the time. I think the majority of anime like that shonen shit is shit, but don't group it all together because you end up sounding like a retard.

the movie wasn't set in reality. it was green because of the matrix code being in green everywhere == everything being made up of the codes color. they had to differentiate the Matrix from the real worlds mostly blue tint.

I wasn't, I love GiTS, Akira, Ninja Scroll and a bunch of other animes(I'll even admit I'm a bit of a weeaboo), but animation in any form, even 3D(unless photorealistic is achieved correctly, which it still hasn't blue furries is not photorealistic, so INB4 AVATAD), will never equal the feeling of seeing real people do things, for the same reasons puppets and practical effects will always be more interesting than CGI. Look at one of things that ruined Reloaded: excessive use of lazy, unrealistic model CGI.

Funny, because I find that real people will never be able to achieve what characters in animation can do. CGI action, admittedly, tends to feel light and you don't feel the force behind it. But I get the same feeling of the actors needing to hold back in live action films as well. While animation can be free and wild and have no real restrictions. But that's just my opinion.

12, Watched it on TNT, managed to by a DVD copy, wore out the DVD, bought it 2 more times. Shit was amazing, still is.

I was about 15 or 16, watching it on TV. Never saw it in theaters or anything, but never heard much about it either.

The twist was brilliant, and the action enthralling.
