I assume you're talking about The Bridge, which Dr. Phil said the same thing.

The thing he doesn't understand, is that those people were pretty damned determined to jump, documentary or not, in fact they weren't aware that they were being filmed at all.

The documentary does not paint this individuals in any cruel light, it only interviews their family and friends who share the same feeling that although what they did was foolish, it's what they wanted to do.

The documentary is one part a documentary about suicide, which there are many of already that no one seems to get into a fussy about, and then the other side with is the mystic nature of the Golden Gate Bridge and the exploration as to why people come to it from all across the world just to end their on it.

Golden Gate is seriously some kind of sacred place.

Oh man, I can't watch the Cold Song without tearing up now that I know what was going on.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hGpjsgquqw

He KNEW that this would be his last performance of his life, he KNEW he was going to die shortly after, and he KNEW that his audience didn't know a single thing, there were there to see him perform.

Hearing him struggle to keep the notes is heartbreaking, his body not able to keep breath anymore, seeing the frustration on his face.

The most damning part about it is that his final song is taken from King Arthur, and it's a song about a dying man. "I can scarcely move or draw my breath.... Let me, let me, freeze again to death"

    ;_;

If that's not a powerful story of life I don't know what is.

Anyway The Golden Gate has transcended beyond simply fame. Some people view it as a holy place, as if the Golden Gate is the one place where it's okay to die.

I live in SF, and they're debating putting up a huge suicide barrier, but that will greatly destroy the beauty and iconic image of the bridge. Plus there's the logic that it already has a 4 foot wall that people still jump over.If you're determined to commit suicide you're going to find a way.

There was a documentary I watched about the moon landing that wasn't conspiracy theories, but it was a "funny thing that happened on the way to the moon"

Basically they kept seeing strange phenomenon like flashes of light inside the cabin (later was determined to be cosmic energy particles piercing the walls of the capsule and popping once they hit air) or that they had a strange object "following" them.

The men inside had to be VERY careful how they worded the question they would ask mission control, because they knew the object wasn't an alien but if they had said "we have an unidentified object out our window" it would have freaked the public out. So they instead asked "What is the position of the stage 4 rocket" that they had jettisoned hours ago, and Mission Control basically replied thousands of miles away from them. The crew just turned their head away from the window and kept on with their mission ignoring whatever it was that was following a similar path to their capsule. Nowadays Nasa believes it was some sort of debris that came off the stage 4 rocket that had mantained momentum, but they can't say for sure.

The best documentary I have seen is one called Harlan County USA.

It is about Virginia Coal Miners in the '70s, and they get shot up and one gets his brains blown out with a shotgun.

There were witnesses and everything and the evil Sheriff never charged the killer with a crime or even arrested him.

Most Louis Theroux documentaries are really good. Basically, he just hangs around with odd parts of society, Nazis, UFO-believers, the inmates of San-Quentin prison, Meth users, whatever, and lets them tell their stories.

He seems to have a real talent for just letting people speak and not getting in the way, and it's really interesting to hear from a lot of the odder sides of humanity.

Someone please spoil the shit out of this movie. I'm too busy to watch it (I think I might have already seen it, or glitch in the Matrix) and I want to know all the details.

I'm pretty sure I watched it on MSNBC... I'm not sure how that is possible though if it came out recently. Maybe it was just one of those hour long docs they do and they used a lot of the footage from this dude's home videos.

I didn't know they made a documentary about that guy.
And while we're on the topic of outsider musicians...
