In what order should I watch the Star Wars films?

Bullshit, VI may be the worst of the original trilogy, but it's still great. Also what's the point of watching IV and V only, V practically ends on a cliffhanger. Sure it's easy for you to say that kind of crap, you know how it ends. OP doesn't.

Oh and OP: since everyone is trying to be funny by confusing you, in case you don't know: Episodes IV to VI are the original trilogy, they're all awesome, VI is the least awesome, but they're all great.
Episodes I-III ... I'd say don't bother with them after seeing the original trilogy, it'll just be a let-down. After watching the original ones you could go for I and see how you like it from there, but imo that was the best of them. The other two sucked even more.

You miss the point of classic movies. It's not about them looking like they were made last year, it's about preserving what has been done. Getting to see original 1977 special effects is part of the point of watching a classic movie. George Lucas may not have been happy with the result, because technology didn't allow for more back then, but that doesn't justify making those manipulations. It's like coloring black and white movies, nobody that cares about movies wants to watch a colored version of, say, Casablanca. And the only reason this happened to Star Wars is because Lucas made them in the first place, and it's his right to do that, just like it would be an artists right to take a great painting and change it. But people wouldn't accept that, you're just changing history because you don't like it. And that... that's just sad.

I'll give you that Lucas pirates quite a bit, but he's never tried to deny that THF wasn't a huge influence. And remember, bad artists copy, good artists steal.

    wrong.

Georgie-Porgie always had the capital of the Empire the way it was because he really liked Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy. He was going to call it Had Abaddon, but some EU writer called it Coruscant and he thought "Hey that's less gay than what I put down" so he used that instead.

EU is only canon if Georgie takes it and puts it in a movie.

The Clone Wars and the upcoming live-action TV show are a grey area. I'd say the live-action show is probably canon, and the Clone Wars cartoons are semi-canon, as in they are in-world dramas based on real world events. Sort of the Star Wars equivalent of Generation Kill, except for kids.

For example, the character of Darth Bane is an original creation of Lucas', and although he did not include information on the character in his films, he informed Terry Brooks of the character to incorporate into the novelization of The Phantom Menace. Lucas also gave Brooks other extensive bits of info of what went on during The Phantom Menace.
