Bridge to Terabithia, based on the children's book. Marketed like a light-hearted Narnia-esque fantasy.

Bridge to Terabethia made me RAGE 5 years off my lifespan, I hated it so much. Worst part of 5th grade. Also, anyone ever see the first movie version of the book, where the chick looks like an ugly lesbian.

me and my friend dubbed it Bridge to Gayrabathia

I probably would have thought the book was a lot better now that I'm more mature of a person, either that or rage just as hard.

Dusk Til Dawn was the result of Tarantino having the idea for the start of a crime story, and the idea for the second half a vampire movie. Then he figured (presumably whilst drinking heavily) that the answer was to jam the two together, add duct tape until they somehow started to sort of fit, and call it done.

It's the Fight Club stuff that comes out of nowhere. Something like the first half hour of the film is just this brilliant dark comedy about how completely fucking pathetic this guy's life is.

The everyman character of Wesley is incredibly believable; he's not some collossal bad-ass with balls of brass and a dick made of solid steel. He's just a jumped up little nerd who's been given a chance to escape his pathetic wreck of a life.

The acting is solid throughout; Angelie Jolie actually turns in a powerful performance, which may be a first, and Morgan Freeman plays the single coolest role of his life. As for James McAvoy... yeah, he's just freaking awesome.

Also, Danny Elfman soundtrack, for the win.

I've read BTT. In the book she's drawn literally as a boy and there's a scene where the boy sees his younger sister in just her panties and stares at her. She calls him a perv but he's thinking how proud of her he is and how much he loves her.

Remember Miller was also going to do Mad Max 4 in 3D, or so he said a couple of months ago. And, it was going to be an anime. That changed pretty quickly.

Happy Feet 2 is probably a little farther along than Mad Max 4, but I'm pretty sure that the inclusion of '3D' is tenuous.

Keep that dynamic, with them acting as aliens to the penguins - in fact, you could expand on that, with people coming to the colony every so often.

See, it's kind of a hierarchy. If the penguins are humans, and the humans are aliens, then what are the aliens, to the penguins?

Not saying it's a good idea, just something to throw around. Doesn't mess up the dynamic of the first film too much, I don't think.

I don't think the aliens being deified over the humans would make any more sense than the humans being deified.
To the penguins, there is no difference between aliens and humans. They only know that they both come from far far away.

Or maybe they should do it in a Close Encounters way. Have the penguins meet the aliens as gods first. Then have them try to tell the humans about them. Or something.

Have the humans meet the aliens first. And go missing or get fucked up or something. Then a penguin goes investigating. Finding influences all along the way.

Then, gradually, throughout the film, it's revealed that these things are something entirely other.

The monsters were pretty brutal, not torturous. There was no reason to use the gun. And then the ultimate irony of the tanks passing by at the end.

Movie is faithful adaption until the end. The end of the short story (or novella if you want to get pedantic) has the narrator writing the story on napkins in a hotel. He and the other survivors take off in their vehicle to an undetermined future.
