so this might be considered blasphemy by some, but as great as the movie is, it is pretty different from the novel

so my question is this, do you think one day perhaps a mini-series more faithful to the book should be made?
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:33 No.3239526
Never read the book. How's it different?
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:34 No.3239532
    No.

Not the OP, but IIRC Hammond dies in the first book from compy poison.

well I wont go into spoiler territory since if you haven't read it you really should, but I will say this

alloooot more happens in the novel, certain characters are different (for example Hammond who's supposed to be this nice old guy in the movie, is actually a bit of a dick in the book) and it's overall allot "deeper" (for better or worse at times)

I thought the book was better, and I'm not a Chrichton fan. It's been a looong time, but I remember I liked the Malcolm character a lot more, he seemed a lot smarter and edgier, maybe a little less pretentious...
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:38 No.3239568
I hope they do, and I hope it's as good as The Shining miniseries they made.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:38 No.3239569
    >>3239538

Yeah. His grandkids are playing with the park control center and accidentally shock him into falling down a hill with a simulated t-rex roar. Jeff Goldblum dies in the book, too.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:39 No.3239582
And oh yeah didnt Malcolm like loose an arm or a leg or something?
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:39 No.3239584
Franchise rights are probably locked up hard, I doubt they would allow a miniseries. Not as long as they can make a new film in the series.

    >>Jeff Goldblum dies in the book, too.<<

and then comes back to life in the second

I'm only replying to thank OP for saying "different from" and not "different than".

Jurrasic Park was a shit blockbuster, anyone who says it was a great movie better be 14 or retarded.

I'm 22, and I can say my love for this movie is based purely on warm, cozy nostalgia.

So i'm guessing most 14 year olds wouldn't really get it.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:44 No.3239631
    - Muldoon (SHOOT HAAAAA) is a bad ass alcoholic in the book, blows shit up with rocket launchers and lives.
    - Malcolm almost dies
    - Genarro (lawyer) lives but later dies after the first book
    - Nedry dies by the same dino in the movie only he gets gutted as well
    - Grant actually likes kids in the book and is a manly man with a beard and shit
    - Hammond gets eaten by compies
    - Lex is not a computer nerd in the book
    - Tim is the computer nerd in the book
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:47 No.3239658

Also Hammond is not a sweet Disney type figure, but a rather evil fuck.

    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:47 No.3239661
it could be interesting, I'd watch it

but it'd have to be really big budget though to have CGI that would do the original's justice

Wu (I think that was his name) gets gutted by raptors.
Ellie has a much larger solo story, running around on the roof and jumping into the swimming pool to escape raptors IIRC.
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:48 No.3239669
The original holds up as a decent movie.
    The sequels are absolute shit
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:54 No.3239705
    one question though

if it's trying to be really faithful to the novel, should it keeps it's 1989/1990 (can't remember which specifically) setting or try to update it to the modern day?
    >> Anonymous 04/05/09(Sun)23:58 No.3239735
    >>3239624

You just reinforced my argument that the movie is a facile abortion of Crichton's book, used to fascinate children, and nothing more. I read the books. Loathe as I am to admit it. It was an idiotic Goonies like action flick with animatronics and crushed cars. WOoooooo!
    >> Anonymous 04/06/09(Mon)00:00 No.3239748
    >>3239735

sooooo, you would agree that a remake would be a good idea?

I would hardly compare it to the Goonies though
    >> Anonymous 04/06/09(Mon)00:01 No.3239755
Sorry kids, the book isn't good enough to warrant this.

Also, Crichton was a shit writer. I bet you faggots like Tom Clancy.
    >> Anonymous 04/06/09(Mon)00:02 No.3239768
IIRC the aviary was in the first book too. No idea why they waited until the third JP movie to show it.

Neither story was compelling enough for any of us to give a shit, in a real world. Prey should be made into a movie, that is entirely more cerebral and more likely.

Maybe people will understand darwinian development if we use massively paralleled networks to bring it to them.
    >> Anonymous 04/06/09(Mon)00:10 No.3239818
The opening chapter about INGEN has to be the driest, most boring collection of sentences I have ever encountered in a novel.
    >> Anonymous 04/06/09(Mon)00:10 No.3239820
Chrichton was only enjoyable for me to read when I was in early middle school. as s sixth grader reading about killer gorillas fuckwin, tried reading him again with prey, it was Andromeda strain 2 with horrifically shallow characters, especially the woman

    man, fuck you
    >> Anonymous 04/06/09(Mon)00:11 No.3239828
The books were great. Even though Crichton was pushed into writing the sequel by Speilburg, I'm glad he did. Hammond being evil felt right and the little girl was even more annoying in the book. She fucks up Grants plans so many times I'm surprised he didn't kill her himself. But I don't think it would be possible to make a convincing miniseries that portrays the book more accurately. I wish he had written another one, I don't care if it would have been shitty the first two are some of my favorite books from when I was in high school.

It would have been a lot harder to make giant animatronic FLYING puppets.
