So let me get this straight. This whole Cylon/Human war cycle has happened three times, right?

    1. Original Earth, where the final 5 came from
    2. Then they went to Kobol, where things fucked up
    3. Survivors of Kobol started the 12 colonies

Or has it happened several times before that too? Who nuked the original Earth? And why does the nuked Earth and the new Earth in the ending have the same continents?
    >> Anonymous 03/21/09(Sat)01:01 No.3091276
    > And why does the nuked Earth and the new Earth in the ending have the same continents?

It doesn't. This was a nod to the original series, which teased the audience with the claim of finding Earth. It showed the continents, but it turned out the planet was Terra.

What Moore did was show the planet, but the next time you see the fleet in orbit all of the continents are obscured by cloud. It was Terra they came to.

Ron Moore sucks...how do two different planets look the exact same and have the exact same constellations? While one is lush with agriculture and the other is a ruined wasteland? How 1 has the Brooklyn bridge and the other has the Brooklyn bridge 150,000 years later? WHO THE FUCK KNOWS FUCK THIS ENDING....FRAAAK

Another theory is that they were the same planet. Remember that scene where Adama was going over a map of Earth showing where humans could colonize in the brightly colored zones? I took it that those areas with inhabitable while the rest were irradiated.

Could be wrong of course, I just don't remember where they established that the previous planet was not Earth, unless if the planet Kara jumped to at the very end was the REAL Earth all along.

It was very clearly a different planet from some dialogue and the way the characters were acting.

Right, but they landed in a different area (Africa) than they did previously. Seemed like the first time around, it was in what was left of NYC with the Brooklyn Bridge and what not.

No that was Earth. The planet they found wasn't called Earth until Adama decided that would be its name. So pretty much they named our planet. It was a nod to Terra though.

    >>3091291
They weren't an exact match, only from what Gaeta saw. Planet was blocking off the other half of the sky.

    >>3091291
Same way how a lot of other things they had before they reached Earth was there. e.g Reader's Digest, All Along the Watchtower. Etc.
    >> Anonymous 03/21/09(Sat)01:11 No.3091373
You people are retarded. They were clearly two different planets, Moore just trolled you by saying it was Earth the first time and then having them land on a different planet.

Right, that was the real Earth, in BSG continuity. Adama named the new planet Earth, which is our earth. AND LOL EVERYONE WHO SAID IT TOOK PLACE IN THE DISTANT PAST WAS RIGHT.

Gotcha, makes sense. Ron Moore is the greatest IRL troll ever.

It was a nod to Terra from the original BSG... so really the original writers were the best IRL trolls ever, since they did the same thing.

The word "Earth" comes from the Gothic word 'airtha' which is about 1000 years old.
    >> Anonymous 03/21/09(Sat)01:25 No.3091482
I'm still trying to understand how the 12 colonies are named after star formations that could only really be seen from our earth
    >> Anonymous 03/21/09(Sat)01:25 No.3091486
I was rather disappointed that the ending kind of boiled down to LOL MAGIC GAWD DID IT.
Though I do wonder what Head Baltar meant when he said "You know he doesn't like to be called that."

Because the names of constellations were passed on from the Terra colony, their shape didn't match actual star patterns anymore. Just like naming places in North America after places in Europe.

Old Earth was close enough to New Earth that the stellar geography would've remained relatively unchanged. Remember Adama said they were only going to search within a certain radius.

Second guy would have to be correct because not only did the names of the constellations get carried over but it was stated (on Kobol I believe) that the original flags of the 12 Colonies had the constellations on them

Rewatch the episode you mouthbreather. Adama outright says "1,000,000 light years".

    >>3091525
No: Earth -> Kobol -> Terra & the Colonies -> New Caprica -> Earth again

Humans evolving independently on two worlds a million light years apart? Science doesn't work that way. For there to be humans on Earth, they would have to be from the same origin as the Colonial humans.
