Pretty cool. Shows what you can do with a couple costumes and After Effects

    >>2795866

It's funny how like ten guys with homemade costumes can make something that is just like the game but also pretty cool to watch while studios fail so hard.

i just watched this this morning, it was actually really.

Necessity is the mother of invention. They don't have millions to spend on CGI, so they have to make do with what they got and that leads to fuckwin.

sometimes it does. sometimes it just turns into low budget slop.

lol, I hate the big studios and like the little guys and that makes me cool!

The difference is that this is a short and in something that isn't a short you're going to need a story and a script.

Haven't you seen Halo Arms Race? They're just as good.
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)11:09 No.2795982
That was great. If these guys had a big budget I bet they could make a great feature film.

Also, was the video really choppy for anyone else?
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)11:09 No.2795991
The first five minutes of this is better than than anything in that crap Sarah Connor Terminator show.
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)11:12 No.2796001
    fucking awesome

It's even more awesome that they used a lot of HL2 stuff, like sound effects and blood decals, so it really is a perfect blend of the movie and the vidya.
Srsly some shots looks like the video games we will have in 10 years

Nice. The editing, camera work, and CGI are all good. The only cringe-worthy parts is the acting.

i dunno, my biggest problem with game movies isnt the story and script, it's that they look nothing like the games.

I mean Mortal Kombat, for example, has a shitty script and plot, but I'll be damned if it isn't live action Mortal Kombat.
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)11:37 No.2796133

This is what I feel that a Half-Life movie should be. With Gordon not as the primary character, but a secondary character that the real main leads of the movie interact with
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)11:40 No.2796153
judging by the other stuff on their Youtube page, they're trying to be Neill Blomkamp

    >I'll be damned if it isn't live action Mortal Kombat.
    no blood, no fatalities
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)11:43 No.2796165
    Impressive, indeed.

I'm guessing the characters are just a few of the other rebels in the game, leaving a meet up with Gordon et al somewhere later in the story.

Can anyone tell what city they used for the intro scene?
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)11:43 No.2796166
kinda bugged me how there was glare from the sky seeping over the characters, and then they comped in a new, darker sky

    >>2796153

And one thing that is for damn sure you have GOT to start somewhere now don't you.
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)11:52 No.2796200
At the end of vid, the headcrab masks looks really bad and fake.
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)12:06 No.2796255
the costumes are pretty crap. they stuck TOO closely to the games, and obviously didn't have the proper budget (lol CGI gasmasks) to get a real costume designer to do redesigns. acting is shit, but w/e. it's the far-off CGI scenes that are really incredible in this, and obviously their strong point. here's hoping the close-up stuff doesn't ruin it. and really, hasn't the actual game already done that as well as it possibly can be done?
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)12:09 No.2796272
i think a HL2 movie should be largely pre-cataclysm (BG?). or maybe like half-n-half. the game showed how fucked things were in an hour or so at the beginning, and the film should do the same (even if the entire thing is only 2 hours long).
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)12:11 No.2796285
    >>2796169
It amazes me what people can do without a huge amounts of money backing them, and how so much bad stuff can come from billion dollar studios which should have so much more resources to do so much better.
    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)12:27 No.2796349
    >>2796285
Exactly. A friend of mine (well, more of a a-bit-more-of-an-acquaintance-than-a-friend) makes amateur movies (like, proper 1,5 hours movies) and they end up better than a lot of the garbage I've seen on the silver screen by huge production companies.

I think that if any HL movies are ever made, they shouldn't be ruined by companies that are only interested in making money, not a good movie.

    >> Anonymous 02/13/09(Fri)14:35 No.2796985
Considering that they made it for $500, it's fucking amazing. All they need is someone to write better dialog and some better headcrab masks. The visual style reminded me of BSG, which is a perfect fit for Half-Life.
