I'm actually happy because this means that his remake of The Wild Bunch isn't going to happen now.

Not to make light of this tragedy but the man was almost 70. He lived a long life and made his mark on the world, so if he had gotten to an age where he was older and wearier than most choosing to go out might be understandable if he didn't want to go on longer.

A child killing themselves before they experience the world and don't gain the wisdom or perspective to deal with their depression is one instance of suicide that is sadder because often with a bit of worldly experience it can be preventable.

But if you're almost 70 and you've lived longer than most people in undeveloped countries ever will and you want out then it is understandable. It doesn't make it less tragic - just slightly more understandable.
