The movies that were your "Biggest Disappointment", "Biggest Surprise," and the movie that "Lived Up to High Expectations."

Biggest Disappointment: Matrix Reloaded - Watched the trailer probably 100 times. Skipped school to see it. My buddy and I left the theater warning people that it was a waste of their time.

Biggest Surprise: X Men 2 - I hated the 1st one. My gf at the time had to drag me to see the 2nd one since just knew it was gonna be terrible. I left the theater more excited about it than she was.

Lived Up to High Expectations: The Dark Knight - Been a huge Batman fan since I was a little kid. Always been my favorite superhero. For the most part, the first 4 Batman movies all made me mad, and then Begins gave me hope. TDK was the most excited I've ever been about a movie and I left the theater completely satisfied.

Biggest Disappointment: Tropic Thunder - So much potential and the only decent joke was laughing at Lance Bass being a faggot, and even that wasn't that funny.

Biggest Surprise: Batman Begins, WALL-E, Hot Fuzz.

Lived Up to High Expectations: Dark Knight, yeah.
    >> Anonymous 01/07/09(Wed)21:41 No.2507880
Biggest Disappointment: Spider-Man 3- i have to say i was juiced to see this movie due to the whole Venom aspect but it just didn't do it for me

Biggest Surprise: Get Smart - i snuck into this movie and have to say that i would not have been disappointed if i ended up paying for it
Also, Thank You for Smoking- i didn't expect anything from this movie but my brother told me about it and now its one of my favorite movies

Lived Up to High Expectations: Iron Man- had everything a good super hero movie needed and then some
    >> Anonymous 01/07/09(Wed)22:56 No.2508443
Biggest Disapointment: Superman Returns, Spider-man 3

Biggest Surprise: Speed Racer, Justice League: New Frontier, Nothing.

Lived Up to High Expectations: The Dark Knight, Oldboy
    >> Anonymous 01/07/09(Wed)23:07 No.2508489
Biggest Disappointment: The Dark Knight. The trailer had me pumped and Ledger as the Joker was promising. But instead of a rollercoaster ride we got nonexistant Bale, irrelevant Rachel, 2 minutes of Two-Face and Joker whos too much of a planner and too less of a .... Joker. Also, plot was contrived to hell and back and it just seems like they tried too hard. Also, fandom.

Biggest Surprise: Speed Racer. I was expecting Spy kids 3d bullshit but instead got an excellent take on what could've been just a throwaway cash-in turd.

Lived Up to High Expectations: Cloverfield, oddly enough. I was expecting an interesting take on the monster genre and it delivered. It isn't the best of movies but it somehow ended up mixing all the elements just the right way.
    >> Anonymous 01/07/09(Wed)23:17 No.2508553
Biggest Disappointment: 300 - Trailer looked awesome but the movie ended up blowing ass. I swear it's only a 45 minute film in real time, but you'd never know considering the overuse of slow motion.

Biggest Surprise: Wanted - I thought this movie was gonna be retarded. I remember seeing the clip where Jolie picks the guy up by power sliding into him with the Viper and just raging about it. But all the IMPOSSIBLE stuff I thought I'd hate was exactly what I loved about it. I was giddy like a 12 year old everytime they curved a bullet.

Lived Up to High Expectations: Dark Knight - I was expecting A LOT from this movie. I was glad to see the nearly 3 hour running time because it gave me everything I wanted and didn't skimp on the good stuff out of fear of impatient viewers.
    >> Anonymous 01/07/09(Wed)23:24 No.2508606
Biggest Disappointment: Star Wars Episode 1 - Jesus how could they ruin Star Wars this badly, it still blows my mind to this day

Biggest Surprise: A Tie between Pulp Fiction and Gladiator. I hadn't heard much about either movie and was completely blown away by both of them.

Lived Up to High Expectations: Lethal Weapon 4 - Best Lethal Weapon movie
    >> Anonymous 01/07/09(Wed)23:25 No.2508614
Biggest Disappointment: The Wachowskis--first they make Matrix Revolutions which was godawful; then I found out they stole the script for the original; then I found out one of them got a sex change

Biggest Surprise: Sin City--even if it sucks after the first watch

Lived Up to High Expectations: Dark Knight even though it's kind of overrated
    >> Anonymous 01/07/09(Wed)23:42 No.2508705
Biggest Disappointment: Southland Tales. As a huge fan of Donnie Darko, everything I heard about Southland Tales made me think it was going to kick so much ass.

The fact that the studios dropped any idea of a cinematic release only furthered my interest: if it's so controversial they don't want to put it in theatre's it's gotta be pretty good, right? No, it turns out that they didn't want to release it because, as critics were saying, it sucked.

Biggest Surprise: 40 Year Old Virgin, I'm not a huge fan of Apatow productions in general, but this movie was really one of the best comedies I've ever seen.

Lived up to High Expectations: Hostel II, lived up to the hype the first one laid down. Didn't do better or worse, but was as good as the first one I have to say.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/09(Thu)00:13 No.2508940
Biggest Disappointment: Speed Racer- I wanted super fast talking

Biggest Surprise: Speed Racer- It was really fucking awesome and I totally wasn't expecting it.

Lived Up to High Expectations: Quantum of Solace- I was never a huge fan of James Bond until this movie.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/09(Thu)00:39 No.2509077
Biggest Disappointment: Superman Returns. I can honestly say that it would have benefited from being directed by Brett Ratner.

Biggest Surprise: Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It wasn't as generic as I anticipated, and I laughed wholeheartedly.

Lived up to my expectations: Dark Knight /obvious
    >> Anonymous 01/08/09(Thu)00:44 No.2509121
Biggest Disappointment : Big trouble in little China. I guess I should've watched it in the 80s or something. It just looks bad, but not bad enough to be good.

Biggest Surprise : Stardust. It gets better with each viewing.

Lived up to High Expectations : Every single Pixar movie continues to wow me.

Biggest Disappointment: 300, Dark Knight, Zack and Miri, Let the Right One In (read the book first after seeing the movie talked about here)

Biggest Surprise: Amelie- generally when I see a movie this popular I assume it won't live up to what people say about it

Lived up to High Expectations: Wall-E
    >> Anonymous 01/08/09(Thu)02:08 No.2509721

Biggest disappointment: Transformers. I've loved transformers ever since some guy made me a copy of the 86 movie when I was 9, and even thought all the evidence pointed to the LA movie sucking I retained hope. God I was disappointed.

Biggest Surprise: Fight Club. I rented it because I was like, fuck I've never seen this, stupid action bromance on a friday night ok. I thought it was just gonna be a bunch of dudes fighting and the drama of who would win each fight. Boy was I wrong.

Lived-Up to Expectations: Let The Right One In. I read good things on /tv/ and looked up what it was about and it seemed badass, and it sure was badass

Biggest Dissapointment: Max Payne - I fucking loved the video game series and since the plot is modeled so closely to hollywood action/noir films, I thought it was impossible to fuck up a movie adaptation. Hollywood managed to prove me wrong yet again.

Biggest Surprise: Speed Racer- What I expected was a decent, unremarkable movie to have fun with. What I got was one of the best movies of 2008. Speed Racer was that awesome.

Lived up to Expectations: The Dark Knight - pretty much gave me what I expected. An awesome batman story with stellar performances all around.

Biggest disappointment: The Dark Knight...sorry, I honestly didn't like it - I felt it was completely centered around Joker (while I LOVED The Joker in this movie I felt like other characters needed at least a little development)

Biggest Surprise: Wall-E, never did I think a Disney movie would stir emotions or make me laugh again.

Lived up to the Expectations: Fracture, or what little notice it got, I loved it.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/09(Thu)09:41 No.2511500
Jesus. Dark Knight, Speed Racer, Wall-E.... It's as if /tv/ just collectively decides to watch the exact same shitty movies. Sheep.

Biggest Disappointment: Return of the King. Peter Jackson reminds us that he's the guy responsible for Braindead.

Biggest Disappointment: The Grinch (loved the christmas special, but the film destroyed everything I loved about the character, we didn't need a fucking origin!)

    Biggest Surprise: Titan A.E.

Lived Up to High Expectations: Pan's Labyrinth
    >> Anonymous 01/08/09(Thu)09:59 No.2511549
Biggest Disappointment: Star Wars Episode 1 - I waited how long for THIS?!?!

Biggest Surprise: Anchorman... keeps getting funnier every time I see it.

Lived Up to High Expectations: I usually expect movies to suck so it remains to be seen; I hope that it is the new Star Trek, but somehow I doubt it.

Biggest disapointment: Matrix Revolutions - I had high hopes for it thinking that they'd answer the questions from Reloaded, but the movie flopped and thus I have banned both it and Reloaded from my mind.

Biggest Surprise: the Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. I had no clue what the movie was about, only saw a tidbit about it on CNN headline news one day. Then on Xmas, my brother says "hey guys lets go see this movie" we were with family friends, and I went because y'know it's a thing to do. Ended up becoming one of my favorite movies and favorite film trilogy.

Lived up to High Expectations: Two Towers/Return of the King, Dark Knight and Pan's Labyrinth
    >> Anonymous 01/08/09(Thu)10:31 No.2511697
Biggest Disappointment: Dark Knight. I really liked the movie, but it was the only one where I was looking at my watch. It felt really drawn out. There were so many of my friends being total faggots for this movie for months that when we saw it and I just "liked" it they gave me a hard time. And I don't care about Heath Ledger dying. I cried when Mako and Pat Morita passed.

Biggest Surprise: The Spirit. Caught it for Christmas and I was really entertained. It was campy as hell, but I liked it like that.

Lives Up to High Expectations: Everyone from critics on down thought this movie was terrible. I knew it wasn't anything Oscar worthy and you can't make this film and try to be serious. Was everything I expected, as if they just took the old cartoon and layered some modern live-action over it. It oozes the old style and camp.

Biggest disappointment: Lucio Fulci's "The Beyond" was told to be the best of his trilogy. Makes me not want to view the rest. Had high expectations because his film "Zombie" was made of pure fuckwin

Biggest Surprise: Dead Set (I know it's a show) I honestly thought with it having something to do with reality tv it would fail hard, but I'm a big fan of the z genre so I stuck it out and was awarded at the end.

Lived up to the Expectations: Watchmen??? kidding. The Spirit, because I thought it'll be shit... and it was.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/09(Thu)12:14 No.2512143
Biggest Dissapointment - The Dark Knight, I love this movie, but the female lead made me cringe everytime she came on screen. She had horrible delivery and was ugly as sin. I was so happy when they offed her! Also, Star Wars I and II. How could they make these pieces of crap! I think that Lucas found a way to fellate himself and as a result has had no communication with the outside world in many decades. Because of this, he is unaware just how bad these films were recieved. Both of these were far worse than any aspect of the Dark Knight, but damn did she ruin that film!!

Biggest Surprise - Fight Club. At the time, I hated Brad Pitt due to his participation in horrible chick flix. The commercials all made it look like a homoerotic crapfest. Instead, it was a brilliant psychological introspection on schitophrenia, and it managed to express some very interesting views of society along the way.

Lived up to High Expectations - Lord of the Rings, all three movies. I have loved these novels since I was a child and didn't think that it was possible to capture their essence in a film, but Jackson proved me wrong.
