AIG recieves $85 billion in bailout money.

AIG gives 60 of it's top executives bonuses, up to one third of their salary. If you make 100,000 you get 30,000. If you make 3 million, you get 1 million in bonus.

Dude that's not capitalism. Capitalism would be to let them fail, so that those who didn't fail win.

Government giving money to corporations (and taking it away from the people) is both corporatism and socialism.

Exactly. If America were really capitalist, AIG would be bankrupt by now and the execs would have no jobs, much less bonuses.

Because government has ALWAYS wanted more power than its given. When the government bails out all the corporations, they will own part of them, i.e. more power: power over people, power over shareholders, power of what service you get to "choose" to have. The point of the Constitution was to limit government, but only a concerted effort on the part of the citizens can truly keep government in check.

Don't get me wrong, when I posted >>2372596 I in no way agree with it; I think it's wrong. Each year, I've always voted for a Congressional representative who supports limiting government.

American used to be capitalist, but eventually those capitalists who made it decided they would use their new power to slowly erode away capitalism so they wouldn't have any more competition and ensured themselves a spot at the top.

    And here we are today.

Because the shareholders don't have any principle; as long as they're making fucktons of money, regardless of what they're doing to get it is right, then who the fuck cares what else?

Citizens who don't care about limited government + a populus declining in moral principle = today's American society

People who talk about less government, but support corporations abusing government to fuck over Americans make my head hurt. Seriously.

The problem isn't lack of government involvement, or too much government involvement. Its the fact that corporations basically run the government.

And then people are shocked when this shit happens.

    Dude, that's still corporatism.
Capitalism is based off of a free market competitive model: If people want something done, and you want to make money, you do it at whatever price you want. If people don't want to pay that, they can do it themselves, or somebody else can offer to do it for less than you want. That's the ultimate idea.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/08(Wed)20:44 No.2372907
If your founding fathers had lived in a world with multi-national corporations you can bet they'd have included limiting their power to your constitution. Limiting government or limiting corporations by themselves isn't going to cut it. Small government would leave us run by a college of multi-nationals.
