  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

Why didn't anyone tell me this was the best film of 2012?
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)19:00 No.22617332
    Because it isn't.
The film isn't very good, and if you think it's that good, you have shit taste.

OP here, the last time I experienced this type of catharsis was in the movie Falling Down.

Holy fucking shit this was intense.

Not saying it's a MASTERPIECE, but fucking hell as far as genre/exploitation movies go God Bless America was just phenomenal.

A bunch of rants stringed together make a great exploitation film?
The violence was terrible, only one shocking/ gore-y death and that was in a dream.
Not enough character development. Roxy just leaves and randomly shows back up at the end to just die.
I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

    >mfw this movie begins the end of Bobcat's career

Seriously, World's Greatest Dad was absolutely stunning, and then he releases a rehash of Falling Down, Fight Club, Natural Born Killers, and every other revenge porn-fantasy disguised as insightful social commentary.

I have hope that he'll shoot something less embarrassing next time, but this was almost painful to watch.

haven't seen it and i never will. the idea i get is that he kills a bunch of people he doesn't like for petty reasons. generic edgy shit which sacrifices any chance of interesting characters, development or even plot for some "catharsis" only a teenager would get. compared to falling down, where he goes apeshit but only intentionally kills people who threaten his life, doesn't decide to just do it for the sake of it and in the end dies tragically, it looks like shit

Holy shit, not that guy, but where exactly did you pick up on the vibe that he watches reality TV?

This entire movie contributes to the degradation of America's culture. It's pathetic, overtly-violent garbage that I was embarrassed to watch. Bobcat's involvement with this movie make me sick, thinking of how far he fell from interesting, dark comedies, to HURR DURR LETS SHOOT TEENAGE GIRLS IN DA FACE THATS 2DEEP4U LULZ.

    Edgy Teen: The Movie.

It panders to the Hot Topic crowd that lives to be edgy and hates anything mainstream. Lacking substance, it appeals to a fitting demographic.

It's an okay movie, I feel like people are taking it too seriously.

Why do you think there is no character development? Because there are no characters to develop-- the film is about the revenge-fantasy message, it's completely ridiculous, nothing has stakes, etc because as much as we fantasize about killing these people we will never fucking do it. Nothing is supposed to have weight; that's the thesis of the movie.

Hold on, let me tell translate what that guy means, even though he was very clear in the original post.

This entire movie was crafted to appeal to the precious 18-25 year old male demographic. It does so by working on the base emotions of superiority, revenge, and brutal violence. The work is formulaic, as this set-up has worked in the past numerous times before.

Falling Down:Middle-Aged Man taking revenge against a society that he believes has betrayed him and left him behind
Natural Born Killers:Pair of media-friendly killers cross the nation, shooting people who annoy them
Kick-Ass:Older man and younger girl team up to take down a criminal organization. Girl isn't afraid to shoot people and swear

Boil those elements down, throw it into the 2010s, release on VOD, and you have a low-budget success story, something Goldcat needs after the disappointing box-office failures of his previous, better films.

The movie's set-up maybe stale, but it sure as hell will draw in audience with minimum knowledge of movie-history, and a whole lot of love for watching people die who they believe are the problems of the world.

Except that I've attended a very typical American university and easily 80% of the people in those universities are mocked by this movie...

The movie appeals to intelligent people. That's about it.
    >> Anonymous 04/29/12(Sun)19:53 No.22618418
I think it's alright. I was a little hesitant going in, fearing it'd be too preachy with the normal "blah blah america blah blah pop culture politics decline" type whining but by twisting it from specific politics or pop-cultural phenomena and instead focusing on the mean-spiritedness and anger in it I thought it was interesting enough. By no means an insightful masterpiece but very much worth the time I spent watching it.

Look here >>22618011, >>22618315, and pic related.

I can't speak for everyone, but it's common belief that intelligent people aren't usually attracted to this type of movie. It's usually teenagers who would like to think they are the epitome of intelligence, but fall for the same marketed shit that they rally against. They even tend to be the type of people the movie mocks, but not notice it themselves.

Your butt hurt is showing. Everything that appeals to intelligent people is also going to attract pseudo-intellectuals. Literally everything.

The fact of the matter is thing smart people in the year 2012 spend time shaking their heads at the utter stupidity of things like Jersey Shore, Christianity, "bro culture," fake tans, and what have you. It's a simple inevitability because there are no intelligent people who identify with the people this movie makes fun of.

I personally have mixed feelings about glee.
