    >It’s against the law to watch or record TV programmes as they're being shown on TV without a valid licence. This includes the use of devices such as a TV, computer, mobile phone, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder.

    >Watching TV without a valid licence is a criminal offence. This can lead to prosecution, a court appearance and a fine of up to £1,000 (not including legal costs). The exceptions are in Guernsey where the maximum fine is £2,000 and Jersey it is £500.

    >It costs £145.50 for a colour and £49.00 for a black and white TV Licence.

In Sweden, it's only two channels that go under the tv license, but if we have a tv in the house, we HAVE to pay for them. Doesn't matter if the tv isn't even hooked up to cable, like if you just use it for video games. And we can't "cancel" those two channels to avoid the license. Also, only old people watch those channels.

seriously though, i don't have any big qualms with the system, other than the ridiculous scare tactics they employ and all the money they waste. website related, they're basically powerless: http://www.bbctvlicence.com/

the BBC is the closest you will get to an impartial network, and the licence covers a ton of radio stations, shows and news sources. everything i want from the BBC i get for free, i listen to it for free and watch what i want, when i want, with no ads
