    222 KB 2011 /tv/ FILM & TELEVISION SURVEY RESULTS Robert Paulson !gOOdWlFE.U 01/14/12(Sat)02:23 No.20458194 sticky
It was a long wait but the results are finally in!

The 3rd annual /tv/ survey was held over a 48 hour period on January 1st and 2nd and had a total 3519 responses, up substantially from the 1159 who took the survey in 2010. The results have been broken into 6 separate images small enough to be postable on /tv/ (under 3MB). All of them will be posted below, and they'll all be uploaded slightly higher quality within the next day or so to >http://tvlists.wordpress.com

2010's images can be found here:

    Enjoy!

I don't get the first one. Half white people gave it a 8.94 and full white people gave it 8.76? Or is one of them meant to be black, but they're white? Also. What does a triangle signify? There's a male and a female sign opposite, so does that mean people in monogamous relationships rated it 8.82 while people in polygamous relationships rated it 8.65?

No, not a joke. Obviously those aren't the movies and shows that were rated the highest (that would be the same for almost every demographic. The "favorites" are the top percentage demographic differences. Basically, it's finding the shows/movies that people who have that attribute (for example, vists /b/) rate, then comparing those ratings to people who do not have that attribute and then listing the top films and shows that were rated higher. So, for example, Prom is listed as /b/'s favorite because they rated it on average 66% higher than people who do not visit /b/.

Correlation of data. It looks at who rated a show/movie a 4 or a 5 and then finds which other films and shows received the most 4s and 5s from those voters. Took excel (and my shitty computer) about 5 hours to calculate all the recommendation titles.

    Here's the funky functions:

And I can personally vouch having looked through the raw data that I'm very confident that 3519 number is not drastically overinflated by trolls. It's easy to spot when one person takes the survey multiple times. The results as they stand now have zero 'duplicate' responses. Each one is distinct.

Why do you want me to justify the reason why I personally found the chart to be informative? It's my fucking perception of it, if you didn't like it then leave at it. Do you really want to put your opinion above others just because you feel you're in the right?

I already said in my post that the film charts were the most interesting to me, and there's two, three huge pictures with a lot of data regarding films. That is what I was waiting for since I was genuinely interested in the overall opinion of the board. I don't care if it has some troll votes since most people still casted their honest opinions.

And this is why, kids, you don't take our opinion seriously. The first viewing of a movie, for most of /tv/, is in a dark basement on a tiny screen while anon eats cheetos, faps, plays vidya, and browses 4chan. Wasn't planning on it just cause there were so many answers and no real way to summarize besides printing every single one (which I already did: >>20458780).

The favorite movies/tv shows of all time parts were also text answer, but at least with those multiple people are typing the same thing. And that took about 10 hours just going through all the answers by hand making sure the spelling is exactly right on all of them so they could be sorted/calculated later.

Percentage of shows/movies on that network/studio that fall within that average ratings range. See the box in the middle with the color chart. It's just a way of visualizing the quality of the titles released by those organizations. The size of the circle/donut is determined by the number of movies/shows they released.

So for example in that example, it looks like WB released one film with an average rating between 8.0 and 10.0 (out of 10), 6 with a rating between 6.0 and 8.0, nine with a rating between 4.0 and 6.0, and two with a rating below 4.0.

It's the films and show that had the highest percentage increase based on demographic or location or board or whatever. Obviously Breaking Bad isn't gonna show up there because no one demographic rated that an obcene amount higher than the others. So you get more polarizing movies/shows that might appeal to a specific group.

So, for example, Madea's Big Happy Family is listed first for non-white. That means that film was rated on average 78% higher by non-white people than by white people, which was the highest demographic percentage difference of all films, which is why it's listed first.

    Does that explain it?
    >>20459965
Same as above. They're the films that had the highest rating increase compared to the rest of the world.

Seriously, many different boards would be so much better if a /celeb/ and/or /waifu/ board was created. It wouldn't even fucking hurt anyone anywhere. It's the same with why r9k was started up again, to have a place for all the different foreveralone threads on different boards so they could actually focus on their own purpose.

/vp/ got their own board because /v/ was sick of constant Pokemon threads, I don't see why /celeb/ would be such a stretch.

However, it wouldn't solve the problem of retards coming over from other boards and asking for recommendations. Game of Thrones is very different to Lord of the Rings and people like it because it's very good. To insist otherwise is very presuming of you.

Black Death is not higher quality than Game of Thrones.

    it was already explained:
it's not "favourite", but "more overvalued in comparison to the other boards"
