Doctor Who - Series 6, Penultimate Episode
    "CLOSING TIME"
Writer: Gareth Roberts (DW: The Lodger, The Shakespeare Code, The Unicorn and the Wasp, Planet of the Dead)
    Director: Steve Hughes
    7:10pm - 7:55pm BST on BBC1
    ==================================
    TRAILER (HD): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHB-iT7QpIM
    CLIP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVQg1N6JFRc

It's the last few days of the Doctor's life. After centuries of running, he knows his end will soon be at hand. But first he decides to pay a social call - Craig Owens, whom he once flatshared with to stop the malicious emergency program of an abandoned Silence craft (S05E11). Life has moved on for Craig, but the mystery lurking at his feet is something very old indeed. And with it, some of the Doctor's oldest enemies lie in wait.

BONUS: The prologue to the season finale will be online right after this episode finishes, so don't forget to go check it out.

    Questions of the hour:
-The final 5 minutes of the episode are said to be "very, very exciting", "perk things up magnificently", and finally answer a big plot question.* Is your body ready?
*No spoilers on what that is, please, kindly consider those who plan on going in dry.
-Will this episode somehow manage to have even less plot than The Lodger despite containing Cybermen?
-On a scale of 1 to 10, how high a Cheese Factor will the plot resolution have (let's say The Lodger's "KISS THE GIRL CRAIG" is about an 8)?

    Go forth, my ducklings.

-Will this episode somehow manage to have even less plot than The Lodger despite containing Cybermen?
...probably not. You just said something big happens in the last 5 minutes.

-On a scale of 1 to 10, how high a Cheese Factor will the plot resolution have (let's say The Lodger's "KISS THE GIRL CRAIG" is about an 8)?
I dunno... 5 maybe, it looks a bit darker.

    Closing Time
    >Synopisis: The Doctor accidentally wanders into an Irish pub and by closing time finds himself pissed as a fart having impregnated several drunken 40-year-old pub sluts. What can explain the secret of this mysterious time paradox? Guest starring Karen Gillan in a gutter with a bottle of scotch.

You know, I think the fact that it's written to accomodate children is part of what stops it getting too mired in grimdark bullshit (that and it means the "darker" elements of stuff like the Doctor's character remain in the delicious subtext).

I'd actually prefer that, still I feel like it would have been a lot cooler to have Craig just be a character to end up in the situation of having certain knowledge of the history of the doctor and other aliens, he can still be all bumbling and funny just the difference of screaming 'OH GOD THAT'S A CYBERMAN INNIT IT!?' over 'WHAT'S THAT!?'
    >> Anonymous 09/24/11(Sat)08:41 No.18534947
The Doctor gave Craig "general background" and then "specific details" on the current situation. That doesn't necessarily include knowledge of every alien species he's ever faced.

People are still sore about him giving Picard shit, and I don't blame them. You don't fuck with a legend, especially if you're going to come off sounding like a jerk.

    2 episodes left? I'm sad.

I just got around to watching the last 4 episodes this week.

The ones I was really looking forward to was Night Terrors and The God Complex. The God Complex just looked amazing. After watching the episodes, I found:

Let's Kill Hitler was so bad I actually stopped wanting to watch anymore. It took me 6 days to come back to it, and I watched the rest in one go. River was just fucking annoying, and shoehorning in Melody's youth into Rory and Amy's was just a really cheap way of getting out of trying to find Melody. It had massive pacing problems, and was just terrible.

But then Night Terrors made up for that. It was a decent episode, it made sense. The acting from the supporting cast was a bit exaggerated, but all in all, it wasn't a bad episode.

Then the Girl Who Waited completely blew me away. It looked silly, especially Old Amy, but that was just incredible. Rory/Old Amy's scene at the end made me feel very emotional. It was just a really great episode.

Then The God Complex. I was disappointed that they didn't do more with Rory/Amy's fears, but holy shit. The directing was just amazing. The supporting cast was stellar. The entire episode was just brilliant.

So yeah. One fucking awful episode (Something that I've never said for any Moffat episode before) a pretty good episode, and two outstanding episodes.

So, is that it for Amy/Rory? I assume they're turning up again for the last episode, but I was under the impression that they were doing at least one more season?

At least it's the first time that the companions have left happy in the reboot.

Apparently they're signed on for it, I don't know how they will be integrated in though.

    Wut?
Martha dumped the Doctor because he was too busy pining for ROES to pay her any attention, and she had to go look after her family who all remembered the upsetting details of the Master's year in charge.

While Let's Kill Hitler wasn't that great and I didn't enjoy it that much because River, I thought Matt Smith's acting was great.

Matt Smith was good as he nearly always is, but it just couldn't save it. And I actually like River. I have no idea how bad Let's Kill Hitler would be if you hated her.

I was actually expecting more reaction. Did everyone hate Let's Kill Hitler as much as I did? I was a little unsure whether to post calling a Moffat episode shit because I was sure to get labelled a troll.

But holy crap the girl who waited nearly made me cry. Darvill is a great actor.
