2 is objectively the better movie. It's more original and interesting. 1 was cliche as fuck and very predictable. Kids liked the first because it was so simple a caveman could understand it. Film buffs and adults liked the second because it was new and different.

Blade 2 was garbage. I saw it in the theaters when I was a teenager, and even then it was a massive let down. The cgi takes were blatantly ripping off the more popular matrix series. The story was forgettable with unrealistic character development to the point of the absurd.

Blade was darker, more intense, and it didn't feel like a cash-in. It will always be superior to Blade 2.

I liked it better b/c it was cooler and more original. Blade 1 you have Blade's backstory then some Anne Rice / Bloodlines influence.

Blade 2 you have vampire-eating monsters, the creature effects are great, and there's more action overall.

Somewhere between the tone of Blade, Blade II, Blade Trinity and Blade the Series, we have the perfect vampire awesomesauce. As it stands, it's easier to just watch them as four reboots of the concept from the comics. It's close to the Alien series in many ways, each film is at best 'inspired by' the previous works.

In fifteen or twenty years time, someone will get funding for a new Blade movie or series. And it will, hopefully, incorporate all the best bits from the ones we got.
