Incredibly underrated movie. Years from now it will considered the Fight Club of this generation. Then you fuckers will realize the genius in this film. This movie doesn't use dialogue to tell the story, it uses music and imagery. You wanted HUR DUR action and you got an amazing melodrama with thought provoking themes and implied subject matter. The action scenes were some of the most beautiful and well-done I've ever seen. Only time will make everyone realize this. Admit it, if Tarantino or some other overly praised director put this out, you all would be praising it as a breakthrough in film making. No, but it's Zack Snider, the "comic book adapter hurrr durrr guy" Sucker Punch is a masterpiece that has to wait to be realized.

he completely missed his own point. the point he was going for would have made more sense if he didn't kill off all the girls. what was meant to be empowering came off as misogynistic. Also some consistency in how the levels of disillusionment relate to each other would have made it better.

The action was good and the way they used music to shift into the missions was good but otherwise this movie was crap. It had so much potential but ended up being what it looked like, a shallow wankfest. I wanted to like it but couldn't get past the glaring holes in the complete picture

it's not that bad things happening to women = misogyny, it was mostly the whole brothel illusion and what it meant. the female doctor and her place in it all was also not helping. her role was to study and let them be raped? this could have been avoided if they established some consistency in the relations between the different levels of psychosis. it seemed like he had all these pieces of good movie that turned to shit when he slapped it together. I feel like I see what he was going for, but he completely missed the mark. I wanted to like it and was disapointed

Am I the only one comfortably sitting in the "it was a'ight" camp? I, too, thoroughly enjoyed the fantasy sequences and the soundtrack. And I think the brothel setting was interesting - I thought the characters pictured themselves in a brothel because it's the location most synonymous with violation, which is what the asylum was.

However, I thought the deaths (especially Blondie and Rocket's sudden headshots) were overwrought, and kind of ruined the plot for me.

Missed the point. First off the entire thing is a fantasy movie. Use your imagination. Second, if they did show part of the dance then you would all just be complaining about how it sucked. Also the little movements the chick does as they zoom in when she is about to begin are HNGGGG

I even liked the cover of where is my mind, and I'm a rather large pixies fan. The placebo cover of that song is also acceptable by my watch.

<-----This person/character/his existence was the movie's major downfall.

His scenes were forced to me, the character felt like something out of a Kill Bill, he looked silly, his acting was poor. Her objectives could have been given to her in a much less straightforward way and it would have suited the film much better, even if it left many viewers moderatly confused. I think that is probably this film's biggest problem is it doesn't know if it is hollywood trash or high art.

I actually really enjoyed this movie, but I would never say it was a great movie. Does it have the potential to be a great movie? I think so, but the end product just wasn't quite enough.

The music was great, I think pretty much everybody agrees on that for the most part so I'll just not even talk about it. All I can say is dat Bjork.

My biggest issue with the movie was the times I found myself getting bored were during the action sequences. I'm not sure if this is from watching the extended edition or not, but in general I feel like the action sequences were a bit much. Not that they shouldn't have been there or that many, but I feel like the movie would have benefited more from showing us the girls in the whorehouse reality intercut with the high fantasy reality. Seeing them in danger when they're kicking ass and taking names with swords and guns doesn't help me connect with them, the scenes where they were in danger in the whorehouse reality were far more intense to me than any of the fantasy scenes. Not that I didn't like these scenes, I just think they could have been handled differently. On a whole I think the movie needed better pacing and to tie the story together just a little bit more. I get that he was probably going for a music video kind of feel with many of the fantasy sequences, but I think he could have had a really great movie if he took the time to flesh things out a little more and pace it in a more cohesive manner. It had a fine enough cast to have been able to carry it too, imo.

Oh god, fuck yes Jena Malone throughout this entire fucking movie

Sucker Punch to me, feels like a film that was released at the wrong time in cinematic history. It seems like there is a mentality where an expensive, effects-laden studio picture doesn't have the right to be experimental and strange. Just because it has all the luxuries that come with massive blockbusters in this day and age, doesn't mean that the attitude behind it isn't in the same spirit of many classic films of the 60s and 70s. Unfortunately, it feels as though visionary genre films don't have a place in our multiplexes anymore. I have no doubt, that films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, El Topo, Suspiria, or any other wildly experimental film that wears the inspirations of its creator's interests on its sleeve, would be met with a resounding WTF from critics and audiences had they been released in the current cinematic landscape. People would be more interested in labelling them pretentious disasters while scrutinising their box office numbers

I actually just got through watching this movie and I must say it was very boring. Since their little fantasy world has no rules, unlike The Matrix or Inception, the sequences, while visually impressive, get pretty boring because they are basically indestructible.
Also, no transition inbetween fantasy sequences, so it basically just felt like levels in a video game

Let me ask a question for the loyal fans:

It was my interpretation that the reality of the film was in a mental home, where the female teacher was a nurse and the High Roller was a doctor performing the lobotomy on Babydoll.

Thus, the brothel scenes were a fantasy. So when Babydoll was dancing, having her fantasies within a fantasy, what was she doing in reality, in the mental home? Was she actually distracting guards and doctors by dancing?

No.. because back in the real world after she gets the lobotomy she walks past the cook. he sees her walk by and he looks at her while puting his hand over the knife holder around his wast where we see that one of the knifes is still missing from when the girls tryed to steal it as babydoll danced for him

The dream sequence starts at the point Baby Doll gets the lobotomy (where it cuts to Sweet Pea doing the lobotomy act on stage).

From there, all the way until the end, where it shows Baby Doll's lobotomy again, is all a dream sequence.

It's supposed to be the world she retreats into when she gets lobotomized. She interprets as real, and then falls into another level within that dream with the action sequences.

Sweet Pea is an outside interpretation of how she sees herself from the outside, and that's the one who "escapes" (essentially where that part of her mind leaves).

after the lobotomy the doctors talked about how much of a hand full she was "the week" she had spent there.
we saw the fire she started
they talked about the girl she helped get free

the movie skiped from the stepdad droping her off right into a doctor performing the lobotomy on Babydoll and dident show the full week she had spent there in the real world .
instead they chos to show use a dream version of the week she spent there that babydoll thought up moments before the lobotomy

never saw it but the visuals look interesting. otherwise not interested.

hope it spurs a trend for sailor collars in fashion again but I know it'll never happen.

Isn't the lobotomy the last thing that happened. She got it because they knew she was insane because she stole the knife and started the fire etc.

    Could be wrong
