Milla Jovovich Says Resident Evil 5 is Happening

With an opening of $73.2 million worldwide in just three days for Resident Evil: Afterlife, it's no surprise that Screen Gems would want to continue the franchise. Vulture caught up with star Milla Jovovich this weekend who said that's exactly the plan.

"This new 'Resident Evil' is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It's the biggest movie in the franchise," she said. "So we're definitely going to make another one."

Jovovich added that director Paul W.S. Anderson, her husband, already has some ideas for the fifth installment and they are looking for ideas from the fans as well this time.

"We've been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it's probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process."

The scene comes after the credits, not the whole credits, like 20 seconds after the credits have started. And her scene isn't long, maybe like 1 minute or under. Sets up the fifth movie. If you have played Resident Evil 5, you know what's happening.

Jill had "died" somewhere, some time, Wesker had found her and brainwashed her to do his bidding. Chris and Sheva Alomar (probably won't be in the film) save her from the mind control and help her regain the control of herself again. Basically she's a bad guy 90% of the game.

I enjoy the games myself, I just can't fathom the fanboys who complain about the films, ahem, "incorrect" portrayal of a stripper cop who fights zombies. Would you like it better if they spent half the film trying to figure out how to combine three household objects to open a door?

I feel the same way about the people who complain that the new movies about space princesses and samurai jetfighters with obnoxious alien sidekicks are worse than the old movies about space princesses and samurai jetfighters with obnoxious alien sidekicks.

The third one was getting there too, but then came the ESP powers and stuff. This movie (While still being a shitty movie) Had SOME good atmosphere that SORT OF looked like a RE game. And I think they ripped off the silent hill movie, in that they used a villian (executioner, pyramid head) Just because he looked cool.

A lot of Afterlife depends on Extinction plotwise, but the plot is minimal enough that

*The world is pretty much a barren wasteland with very few people left alive
    *There are super zombies
*Umbrella made a bunch of clones of Milla
    *Milla got psychic powers

    Will suffice.

    >In September 2006, it was rumored that Leon was to be in the third Resident Evil Film. However, this did not turn out to be true and bringing Leon as a character in the film would contradict released information from Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Screen Gems created a promotional faux newspaper, "The Raccoon City Times", that detailed the background of Jill Valentine, and also included that she was dismissed from the S.T.A.R.S. after the death of her partner, Leon Kennedy.[1]

Like another anon said, the movie had some good moments of building up the suspense of a survival horror game.

The sound and music were good, very RE1-ish.

The 3D was better than Avatar, felt very natural, and done really well.

What lacked was a decent plot and better actors. Also just a bit too much slow-mo for my taste.

Also, is this the first movie where Milla doesn't show any skin? I've seen quite a few movies with her, and there was always a breast or a nipple of something. This movie had nothing. Not even a wild underboob!

What I hope for the next movie is more zombie-killing, more suspense, and hopefully no more Millia clones (but I'm pretty sure all died in the beginning anyway)

One of the best things the movie has is delicious Radha Mitchell, but it's not very good as an adaptation. It took elements from the first three games to make the story, and things just don't add up. The director should've just opted for making a movie for each game instead or something. I really wanted to see the Incubus in the end, and I was disappoint. It would've been infinitely creepier if the whole Cult thing would've gone more closely with the first game's depiction, and then have the Incubus appear in the end.

The action was dynamic, they made good use of the 3D, and they didn't do anything horrifically retarded (i.e. making Nemesis Alice's love interest). And I've got to give props to Anderson for doing a reasonable job of Wesker, instead of the car crash I expecting.

On the downside: questionable acting, a basic and highly predictable plot, and endless slow-motion sequences.

Fuck that. I like both the actor and character too much to throw them into this shitfest of a movie series. A friend was getting excited about the possibility, but I told her it wasn't worth it considering how badly they might use the character. Just imagine the Mary Sue bullshit would Alice do to punch him down some pegs.

They kind of break the plot. They handled them pretty well in this film, having them + her clones be enough to force Umbrella out of hiding and then forcing her back to normal, but it was kind of to the point of removing all threat.
