While Lost may have disappointed on the answers, but answers does not a good show make.

Shows like V, Flashforward, Prison Break, Heroes, etc. failed in many ways because they were hollow and didn't balance real, emotional character moments that felt real with an intriguing story. I'd much rather have a show that's smart, atmospheric, and nuanced like Rubicon than another empty shell like Flash Forward.

I'm rooting for The Event to be more of the Lost type where character comes first (and doesn't feel like all the characters are puppets being jerked around to set up the writer's next tweest) but I also hope they have a clearer idea and plan for where the series is going than Lost did.

Also, I think the prisoners are duplicates of a certain group of important from a past event where in a single location reality split. They somehow have knowledge or technology that is a thread, and their actions could lead to a future, larger reality split.

Maybe they'll deal with a real conspiracy on the show, like how I always see Sonic commercials but never any actual Sonic restaurants.
