Last 2 episodes have sort of made me less interested.

It's just people talking and living life after a tragedy...I mean that's it really. It's the story of how people had to recover after the hurricane. I hate to say it, but there isn't enough conflict in the show. And now they fucking killed off one of the more interesting characters. ugh lame.

did any of us know The Wire was The Wire after only its first season?

one thing this show has that The Wire doesn't is a real joy of people

in The Wire, Dave Simon is being far more appropriately cynical about human nature, but here, allowing certain characters like Sonny to exist shows that--while he may not be any more compassionate--there's a certain acceptance that such people exist, and that we can't preach or change them, so much accept them for the good they have, but still avoid their faults. Hell, isn't that basic idea what governs how we feel about every character, especially when they transgress?

    >Treme is a bunch of people drinking all day who occasionally take a break to play some music or talk about what a magical place New Orleans is.

This needs to go on the season 1 DVD box.

    Make it happen /tv/.

I am. It's not something I've made a conscious effort to get into, but damn if I don't love hearing it. It's also awesome when there's references to or the music of some of the few musicians I know of, because people consulted for and even making cameos in the show fucking knew these people.

I've not seen an episode of this, but do they ever talk about the black people looting during and after?

Or talk about how all the white people left when the warnings went out and all the black people stuck around and were drowned or had to be rescued.

I'm not stormfront or anything, but from what I can gather, they're painting the people of New Orleans as some noble rebels instead of a major part of the problem during Katrina.

David Simon knows about Baltimore but he didn't have Cal Ripken Jr in every episode. He's so hell bent on proving he knows about NOLA that he goes over the top with the cameos.

I think most street corners in Baltimore have zero instances of Cal Ripken Jr, while there's a fucking ton of musicians in New Orleans, particularly in a neighborhood known for having a fucking ton of musicians living in it.

That's funny. I didn't see the water grabbing six packs and television sets.

Nor was the water a surprise to anyone that lived in New Orleans. They knew it was coming for days. It's their fault if they weren't smart enough to leave when they were told to.

It was a problem because some people seemed unable to pass up the chance of stealing unguarded loot in favor of getting the fuck out of a city that was below sea level about to be hit by a hurricane.

Does /tv/ like it? No, not really. Nor do most of the halfheads on IMDB or anywhere else really. They're constantly comparing it to The Wire simply because it has the same creators, or bawwwing about how there is no conflict.

There is conflict every fucking episode. The conflict is the inept response of the government, but local to NOLA and nationally as well as the conflict of the people trying to pick up their disrupted lives. I guess to these people conflict has to always be another person.

People also hate it because it is character driven, a character study. Not enough action and black people shooting each other to reinforce a stereotype in their suburban minds for them, I guess.
