My cable box, PS3 and 360 all came with HDMI cables so I didn't think they cost anything. Why on earth would you pay that much?

Also I upgraded one of my cable boxes to HD, with all the HD channels for a one off price of £100, they gave me a free cable as well.

Sounds like you've got it wrong, there aint no difference between hdmi cables my friend.

buy any cable you want as long it supports hdmi 1.3, this is pretty much every cable except really, really cheap shit.

hdmi 1.4 is for future 3D shit and really nice theater projectors, you don't need it.

what I dont get is HDMI is a standard
like 802.11b/g/n, its not something individual companies can really improve upon
this shit is standard so we dont have individual companies making TV's that are only compatible with their accessories
like panasonic making a TV with a special connector on the back that only worked with panisonic Blueray players

In a couple years all information rich signals will be broadcast over collimated t waves placed at nodal lagrange points around your livingroom. To maximize shannon channel capacity you'll have to place all of your equipment in multiples of 2ft apart.

    He's obviously trolling

But yeah. You buy the cheapest possible HDMI cable you find.

HDMI is a digital signal so it will either work or not. No amount of gold plating or adding cool looking paint will make the quality any better or worse. It's all or nothing, that 2dollar cable from exactly the same as the 500 dollar one.
