hey /trv/. Not going to lie, love asian girls.

go to do that whole teach english in foreign country blah blah blah thing but don't know which country to do. Someone said not to do japan because they don't want americans. someone said not to do korea because that's what everyone does and they're all filled up. what country has the hottest asian chicks and will pay for my apartment or at least set me up with one?

Should I go to uni for english major before I do it or should I just submit a resume to an ESL site? also what's a good esl site to submit my resume to?

how do you go about teaching english in asian countries? You don't need to know the native tongue right?

Not op btw, and I only assumed you don't need to know the native tongue because my Japanese teacher said he was not allowed to speak in Japanese to any of the students when he taught English in Japan.

Not bad. Cold. Korean heaters are the best in the world. They heat the floor. Fuck, why didn't the US think of that.

You..don't have central heating in the US?..

We have it in Canada in almost every house built after 95..

Korean housing has had under-floor heating for a very very long time, millennia in fact. Known as 'ondol', the heating form was briefly out-moded by western heating technology, but in the 1990s koreans became nostalgic for their own heating system and the popularity of ondol again rose. Today in Korea, most hotels will give you the option of a traditional ondol room, which has no bed (well, nothing we would recognize as a bed anyway).

    Canadafag here
Myself and a few buddies are taking a trip down to the States in a couple of weeks. We're looking for any cool places that we should visit while there.
I believe the plan is to end up in Tennessee, but any other ideas would be cool. We're not looking to go over to the west coast.

OP, torontofag here. I did a roadtrip from Toronto to New Orleans about a year and a half ago.

I liked north carolina. the outer banks can be pretty cool, and you should visit Asheville, NC for sure. have breakfast at the early girl eatery and thank me later. It's within a day's drive from tennessee or Atlanta if you wanted to go to ATL. but i didn't like atlanta all that much. people were nice, but there wasn't much to do that interested us.

kentucky can also be pretty cool. you can visit some horse race tracks (go early in the morning and watch all the horses and training jockies practicing. many are mexican and pretty friendly.) also, there's bourbon. bourbon everywhere. we went on few distillery/factory tours, which are usually free and sometimes include free bourbon samplings. i bought a few bottles, 'cause stuff that'll cost you CND $40 in the LCBO will be like $20 american.

also, make sure you visit a waffle house or three, though they're more a thing of further south, kentucky and tennessee has some too.

you could also spend a day or two in Cincinnati. i'd say check out virginia and w.virginia (driving in the mountains is epic), but they're probably too east of your route.

American Midwestfag here. You've picked a pretty time of year to drive down, but I hope you like corn & soybean fields because that's what you'll see most of your way down through Ohio and/or Indiana.

Cincinnati, Ohio is an okay place to stop. That's the closest big city to me, and the last big city you would pass on the way to Kentucky. If you stop there, do not leave without trying Skyline Chili or White Castle. They're bizarre fast foods native to that area. Around Cincy there is also Kings Island, a very cool amusement park, and several indoor water parks. We also have a fairly bad ass zoo. There's also a really nice casino called Hollywood right outside of Cincy on the border of Indiana in my hometown Lawrenceburg, if you're into gambling. Its just a short jaunt over from the city.

In Kentucky, as another anon said, you can stop at a race horse park. If you're going down 75, you'll pass RIGHT by the Kentucky Horse Park.

When you're in northern Tennessee, immerse yourself in the American Redneck culture by stopping at a roadside flea market, or walk through a walmart and simply observe the shoppers. You will either be amused or appalled. By some useless piece of junk from a man with not enough teeth in his mouth. It'll make your day, and his.

In eastern Tennessee there is a massive lake called Lake Norris. It is absolutely beautiful and not nearly as crowded as the other popular lake in Kentucky that's name escapes me at the moment...Great place to stop if you're into boating, tubing, water skiing, wakeboarding, or fireworks. You can also camp on the islands in the lake, which is awesome.

I'm not kidding about the Skyline thing, though. If you tell somebody from Cincinnati that its your first time in that city, the first thing they will most likely ask you is if you have had some Skyline chili yet. Fuck asking 'where are you from', we just want to know if you've had our food. There is a freaking country song that talks about Cincinnati and Skyline chili. Its pretty much the best thing we have to offer, so don't pass it up.
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)21:37 No.359071
    Sounds good guys.
    I appreciate the answers.
By the sounds of if, I guess we'll be stopping in Cincinnati for some Skyline.
The kentucky race track idea sounds pretty cool too, as does the camping at the lake in eastern Tennessee.
It sounds like there is a lot to do that we hadn't even thought of.

    139 KB Barcelona & Paris Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)21:36 No.359070   [Reply]
Hey /trv/, my hipster/skateboarder of an older brother and I are going to Paris & Barcelona. He went to Paris for like two days once and spent them at famous skate parks there.

I'm a girl and obviously like to shop, but since he is a hipster he likes to shop even more. Any suggestions of where we might go shop together in those two cities?

Also, are there any things that we absolutely have to see/do/eat while we're there? I'm not talking monuments or museums, because apparently hipsters don't do museums, but other places to go and things to do that are a must in Paris & Barcelona?

    >> Anonymous 07/21/10(Wed)17:55 No.357581
Eh, you don't ever need to go to the mainland. Besides, you need a visa to go to there. Hong Kong has PLENTY of things, you won't ever get bored. Go see the Peak, Big Buddha, Wetlands Park, Tai O Fishing Village, walk around the crowded Nathan Road, pick up a hooker in Wan Chai, enjoy good and cheap food from all around the world at Soho. And drop by Macau for a daytrip by ferry, no visa needed unless you're from a 3rd world country.

Best advice i can give you: go to an irc/icq china chatroom and ask people who live there. If they like you, they'll be happy to guide you around their part of China, which means you'll only pay the local price for goods and services (can be up to 10 times less than the 'forigener price').

I wasn't 21 at the time but the area around UT is the best for parties. Plus the city is on a big river so people on gameday lash their boats together and have big ass open parties.

UTenn is a really good school and people from all around the world come to Knoxville to study, so it really isn't hicky.

Tennessee is one of the coolest states in the union. Chattanooga is a really cool town also. Nashville is cool. I make fun of Memphis because it isn't as cool as New Orleans, and is kinda dodgy.

Eastern TN is perhaps one of the most beautiful areas of the entire country. Makes you wonder if God is a moonshiner.

TN is one of those states that has a bad reputation because it is in the south (but when you go there you notice RIGHT AWAY how much more normal and educated it is than AL or MS) and some people in the smoky mountains are a bit stereotypical (some literally brew moonshine).

TN has awesome hiking and outdoorsy stuff and you don't have to be some mountain man to enjoy it.

So /trv/ looking to study abroad in either Hamburg, Germany or Graz Austria.

Hamburg seems attractive because its schools are easier to study at and have more core classes in my major and in English. I also heard the nightlife is awesome.

I heard Graz is a nice smaller city with stunning buildings and cool student nightlife. My Great grandmother was also from Austria and it would be neat in a way to visit my heritage country.

So /trv/ what would be your advice on what course of direction to take?
