Alright I am getting tired of this fucking nation and the ways most of the senators think. Most senators don't need to take an IQ test before joining the senate. Most of them are intolerant evangelical racist Christians. This was not how the fucking founding fathers wanted the country to be. John Adams even admitted that Lighthouses were more useful than Churches.

Is there any country in this world today that is similar to the likes of what the founding fathers wanted this country to be? Why do I suddenly wish I could live in the America during the days of leadership of George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson?
    >> Anonymous 01/16/09(Fri)03:42 No.98212
Whoa buddy, get your facts straight. We had slavery during George Washington, remember?

As a libertarian I do agree that this country is pretty fucked up compared to what it's supposed to be, but what can ya do? Go be a politician and try to change something.

Anyway, no, there is no country similar to what our founding fathers wanted us to be. You live in the best place on this planet, man, even if it is shitty. Of course, other places have their own benefits, but I'm just speaking in generalizations.

In any case this doesn't seem very travel related

    >Why do I suddenly wish I could live in the America during the days of leadership of George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson?

Because you're still in high school, punk. America is too large and too diverse to be run the way you want it to be.

Then what is some shitty countries compared to this one?

Also why do Japanese people wish to come and get jobs in the US? Why now when there is a recession?

What you are saying may be true, but having less restrictions than other nations does not mean everyone is totally free of needless government interferance.

Canada has the most land where no one will bother you.

The US has shitloads too, and its all habitable!

Move to Kentucky and start a pot farm, you'll have little to no medical care, dentistry, food, water, and tons of infectious disease and rampant racism, just like the days of Washington!

Maybe not for the well-off individual, but there is a beauty to several more regulated societies in Europe, that have a (compulsory) public health or unenployment system, free education, less influence of religious extremists, several weeks of holidays (i.e. regulated labour market) etc.

Costs for this of course are higher taxes and less flexibility, but on the other you gain a sounder and less criminal society.

If you look for a liberal society, the Netherlands seem to me the most liberal in Europe, although I am not sure if it's that kind of liberal you are looking for

what you're trying to say is that "freedom" is relative. to my family, it means economic security. and we are willing to give up some "financial freedom" (i.e. in taxes) in order to be healthy, happy, and able to spew our own brand of post-ayn rand bullshit.

That's nice but it's not freedom and it's definitely not American. And since this thread is about America's republic, your input seems to have little relevance.

Like the above poster said, America is THE most free and small-government driven major country on this planet. Of course, the federal government still sticks it's nose in far too many things than it's constitutionally allowed, and I wouldn't be surprised if America crashes and burns in the next 10 years. But that's just babbling.

Also like the above poster said, if you prefer more liberal politics then by all means Europe or Japan is for you.

Me? I don't give a fuck. Politics come and go, I love countries for it's culture!
