Have you ever hitchhiked? Name some places you've hitched from/to.
    >> Anonymous 12/28/08(Sun)16:38 No.91513
I lived in the States a few years back. I was at an age to start going to college, but because of my VISA I wasn't allowed to work, so I couldn't buy a car. My dad was allowed to work, but he obviously was doing so while I had to go college.

I lived in a very decent neighbor in CT, however it had no public transportation whatsoever so while I was taken to the train in the morning, when I came back home I had a good several miles between the train station and my house.

I hitchhiked several times. Usually good experiences. Meet some rather interesting people, and I even got invited to a party once I didn't attend because back then I wasn't really into drinking or parties.

The place I hitchhiked was mildly safe, so I wasn't worried much, but I don't know if I would recommend hitchhiking everywhere.

I'm a decently dressed black guy and I can never get a ride.

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Whenever I do get picked up it's always one of those "Flanders" type christian guys.

O rly? Exactly where in Europe have you been?
When you travel along the busier international highways, you'll see plenty of people around various stops along the way. Provided it's summer, though.
    >> Anonymous 12/28/08(Sun)20:35 No.91574
From my house up to a gas station.

From gas station back to my house.

From the middle of nowhere back to my friend's house.

There's your problem. You've either got to polarize, bro. Either dress in stereotypically bright, ugly colors so we think you are just a fine African gentleman on his way to Church or court or something, or in a full on suit so we assume you are a classy Black Brit or something.

    >Either dress in stereotypically bright, ugly colors
    I don't dress like a Nigger.

I guess we need a sub-topic on what to wear while hitchhiking.
    >> Anonymous 12/28/08(Sun)21:30 No.91590
Hitchhiking is very dangerous. Made for TV movies of the 80's made me aware of that fact. Fortunately before it was too late.
    >> Anonymous 12/28/08(Sun)21:44 No.91600
The only time that I've hitchhiked was when my truck ran out of gas in rural Nevada and a rancher transporting hay picked me up, dropped me off at a gas station and then took me back to my truck.

He had an apathetic air about him, which I guess suggested that he helped stranded drivers quite a bit.

So if anyone plans on taking Highway 50 between Reno and Ely, be aware that you'll be going about 150 miles without having the opportunity to fill-up.

The media is what made it "dangerous", because of all the stereotypes that were presented in movies and such you'll mostly run into creeps, religious nuts, or people looking for sex. In the U.S. at least. Everyone used to pick hitchhikers up back in the 50's-60's.

I look back @ the 70's & 80's with nostalgia. You could do things back then that you just can't do now. Something as simple as riding in back of a pick up truck, that is now against the law in my state.

I'm not sure if It's all the media's fault. Everything really is more dangerous now. And It's not just non white neighborhoods. Even white kids nowadays try to act like a bunch of thugs. Just look at the idiot Santa that shot up his own family.

Hitchhiking is not against the law in any state.

I've been hitching for ten years (mostly without incident, mind you), and the most I've ever been nailed with is "vagrancy"
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)00:44 No.91643
OP here. I've hitched from New Orleans to San Francisco, Kentucky to The Florida Keys, KY to Oregon, and I've never been raped or held at gun point (except when I wasn't hitchhiking, in my own town). The main problem with hitchhiking is trying to get rides from paranoid fucks who've watched too many horror movies.

My mom hitchhiked around Europe... back when it was still a cool thing to do.

Crime rates in America are much lower now than in the 70s or 80s you fucking imbecile. Pic related.

    >I'm not sure if It's all the media's fault
    Evidently, it is.

    >Even white kids nowadays try to act like a bunch of thugs. Just look at the idiot Santa that shot up his own family
Becuase these things never happened in the past.

Oh lol, that's a good one. Try hitching a ride with a random strangers in an American city and see how fast you will end up in a ditch, with a stab wound.

    Fucking idiot.

You can shove those statistics up your ass cocksucker. I live in the real world. I drive for a living and spent most of my life living on both coasts. I'm 40 years old and could tell you first hand that our country is a much more dangerous place. As a white kid growing up in L.A. I could cruise through any neighborhood with not much trouble. Try doing that today and see where you end up!

I live in the real world motherfucker, try getting out of your parents basement and experience first hand everyday life in most of our mid to large cities.

Shove them internet statistics up your ass.

Yep, of course you do, of course you do. And that informative post by some Anon was certainly proof enough, better than any actual empirical data.

More dangerous, or we're just taught to fear everything?

    Sure you have.
It's truly apparent that you've lived a very shelter life. The only way you've ever visited a non middle class neighborhood is through Google Maps.

    >>91908
Dude, the other guy is right you should get out o your shelter

That statistics are wrong and anyone with common sense knows that, but you're the kind of kid that only sees sun trough google images.

Kids can't even be left to play on the streets alone no more, i've been robbed 4 times last year and you try to tell me crime isn't on the rise with your internet statistics?

Seriously, you best be trolling dude, kids like you make me sad. One day you'll get outside to life and i'd like to see how well you and your statistics do

Hey I just posted this, and I somewhat do agree with you saying everythings more dangerous than it used to be. I guess being jumped, or robbed doesn't sound as abnormal anymore so I didn't notice. I wasn't alive in the 50's or 60's but I don't think any of that type of crime was common, was it?
