So, in about a week, I'll be visiting VIET-NAM, man

What can I do there, besides ME LOVE YOU LONG TIME (not that I wouldn't mind a tip or two about that, hah)? Do they have any war memorials or museums worth visiting? Because that I'd love to see.

Also, what's the population's general attitude towards Americans?

    are you actually serious?

    how old are you?

i think this was a bad vacation choice for you.

Went there 2 years ago, HCM City, very friendly people. Even the guys who try to sell you things will leave you alone if you say no thanks, unlike some other places I've been to. The streets are super crowded in the city, but most of the people are really chill and enjoy a chat with anybody.

American's might think that we are a big deal, but we're just another people over there. france, japan, china, have all fought vietnam, and the majority of tourists going there now are french, americans, and austrailians.

there are a lot of nice places to visit, just pick up any tourist guide. everything is pretty cheap, think 1/3 the prices here.

I also went up to Ha Long Bay, and that was fucking Amazing.

Everyone I've talked to who's been there keeps saying the same thing: "You don't know man, you weren't there!"

We hate the Chinese most, next we hate the older Japanese.
They did their worst in war times.

Americans, French and everywone else are very welcomed tourists.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/10(Fri)16:27 No.293021
there are some war memorials and museums but nothing worth visiting unless maybe you were in the war. and besides they are all government owned propaganda outlets that few people visit.

stick to south viet nam, there is a big difference between north and south. the north looks and feels like a stiff communist country, while the south is much more relaxed and simple.

Where are you going in Vietnam? Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) are both very nice. The driving is fucking insane there, so take taxis; you probably shouldn't do any driving yourself.

There are shitloads of temples and random "touristy" attractions to visit in Hanoi.

HCM is kind of like Vietnam's NYC. You can do regular city stuff there. You can visit the "palace" (not sure if this is what it's called, but the people who live there should understand what you're talking about.)

Both places have great food. As opposed to Vietnamese restaurants in the US, which usually have a broad range of Vietnamese food, in Vietnam, each restaurant has a specialty. Personally, I liked Hanoi's food a bit better than HCM's.

There's also lots of stuff to do outside of the major cities. One activity that I particularly enjoyed was an area with a bunch of lakes, mountains, and caves. You got in a boat and a woman rowed you into several caves underneath several mountains. I don't remember where it was, but it was within an hour of Hanoi.
