These people are assholes, OP, try to ignore them. I know nothing about Michigan, but if you plan to stay long term or outright emigrate, Arizona is a nice place to be in winter. In the summer it gets really hot here in Phoenix, but its nice and dry, and since most Phoenix residents have crazy powerful Air Conditioners in their homes and access to a swimming pool, there's definitely something to think about. Nothing quite beats the heat like chilling in the pool and drinking a shitload of tequila and smoking fine cigars. Plus you can ask your American friends to take you out into the desert and blow up gunpowder targets with a gun. That's really fun. I like to go out onto Federal land at night with tracer rounds and shoot propane tanks.
