Unless you went to your local congressman and asked to receive a tour of the capital building and white house about 6 months ago then the best you can do is take a picture from the outside because that's all they will let you do.

Aside from that, the WW2 memorial, Arlington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and the Mint are really cool too. Any smithsonian you go to will be fun---except the native american. It's small and shitty. Your local museum would do a better job.

True about 6 months for the White House. But you should be fine if you call your Congressperson to setup a tour of the Capitol. I like the Capitol better, you get to see more, but the White House is cooler, just to be in it.

I went their a few years ago.

Georgetown/ Washington Cathedral is pretty cool.

    Arlington National Cemetery.

I think Ford Theater would cool but when we were there it was closed for renovations.

If you got time, Mount Vernon and Monticello.

    Buy Fallout 3 instead.

Capitol is better than the White House except for the Christmas season, the WH decorated is a sight to see... The FBI used to have a tour in their building in DC but I think it's been closed for years thanks to turrism.

Definitely do Mt. Vernon and ether Gunston Hall or Woodlawn Plantation depending on your schedule.

The Kennedy Center offers tours, and check out the Bureau of Printing and Engraving if you want to see how stamps and money are made.

I visited the Supreme Court in a school group (John Paul Stevens' grandson was a classmate), and that was beyond fantastic. They have to offer something for the public to see. Check it out if you can, it's really impressive

Clarendon, Arlington: Just across the river. That's where everyone from DC goes for fun.
