  • Kimmo Alm aka "Sysop" from AnT has been spamming us for YEARS now, and has recently stepped it up. This shit has got to fucking stop.
As promised, here are all of the e-mails he has sent me over the years (and my responses).
    ↑ UPDATED March 16th! ↑
One of Kimmo's ex-moderators posted hundreds of PMs. They are absolutely hilarious/terrifying.

/tg/, where has innovation in RPGs been coming from over the last few years? I'm in my D&D ghetto so I can't tell. Pic completely unrelated.

    Nowhere. Because there is none.

Really? Can I at least get a second opinion on this? I'm depressed. :(

Dark Heresy has made the innovative move of basing an RPG on Warhammer 40,000.

White Wolf has been doing their thing with d10s. All pretty solid, but nothing jump-out-and-grab-you.
The boys behind Cthulhu Tech have made valiant efforts with a d10 dice-poker system called Framewerk. I like it, few other fa/tg/uys do.
D&D 4th ed seems like a pretty solid d20 option, not sure how innovative it is, as such. Need to play and read more.
Dark Heresy and its siblings are the place to look for percentile.
And I remember something about games employing jenga towers.

Innovation seems to come mainly in the for of setting, if that much. Hellas is an interesting one - ancient Greek myth as Space Opera, wherein you play a Hero and the epic manner of your death is rolled for at chargen.

There are some really interesting indie rpgs, but they are hard to get people to play.

So far as I can tell, we're swimming in innovation these days.

I haven't read or played everything obviously, but Evil Hat and a host of other indie developers keep pushing the bounds, while even the big names are cranking out new, interesting stuff thanks to nWoD and 4e.

    Reign, too.

And that's just staying within the bounds of standard heroic fantasy RPGs. Possibly because that's what sells.

I disagree. We are not swimming in innovation, so much as what was once popular is taking a back to seat to more varied concepts. I haven't seen anything "new" since it can all be traced back to the 80s, but I am glad things that at one time it felt only i knew of them are now becoming the popular options.

I know how OP feels. Check out a classless, leveless system and it'll blow you away. I suggest Call of Cthulhu.

But I already mentioned Evil Hat, as so far as I know they've never made anything with classes or levels.
