They are going to reveal a remake! With scripted homoerotic relationships and high speed combat, all you need to do is take cover behind things and let your magic missiles fly.

The conversation options were a tad complicated for our target audience, so we have changed it to something along the lines of our recent Dragon age 2 game, where conversation choices are limited to; Funny, diplomatic or threatening. These choices are scripted as well, so there will be no confusion during the dialogue.

Hope you enjoy the next best seller!

Only hour to go.This will either be the biggest disappointment this year after the mess that Mass Effect 3 is, or finally a game to look forward to besides... uh.. besides... mhmm... besides... ahaha.. It seems after they basically cancelled Dark Millenium I'm not looking forward to anything.
    >sadfrog.jpg

Ah... but just Imagine the Possibilities, guys.
    >They announce a completly new Baldurs Gate-Game
    >It's a Midquel, set after Baldurs Gate 1 and before the Shit that went down in Baldur's Gate 2.
    >It focuses on your Companions that didn't make it into Baldurs Gate 2 and basically tells its own story unrelated to the mainplot, after CHARNAME killed his Half-Brother and went off for ADNEVTURE!
    >You choose one of the NPCs from BG1 as Protagonist at the beginning, the game then changes slightly, when it comes to plot, interaction and the other companions you can get into your party.
    >Every single one of the NPCs is now fleshed out properly, with shitload of Banter between the NPCs in the Group and the Protagonist and them commenting on your decisions, if its too far from their own alignment, they will even try to start to persuade you to approach things differently or attack you.

    Would you buy this, /tg/?

College didn't work out too well for me, and I have myself to blame. I drank, I partied, and I slept in. While the funding isn't as high as the Army, the Corps has higher training standards (from what I could see before and after joining--the CSSB guys I had to deal with were..well, less than competent.) in terms of job proficiency and overall survivability. Getting out with CCNA, CCNP and CISSP certs does wonders for job seeking, all I need is server 2008 training and I'll feel better.

Y'know, aside from the whole "peeing on people" thing. There's an R Kelly joke in there, somewhere.

    So, BG gameplay discussion.

I find that the most annoying parts about Baldur's Gate are the following 2 things.

    1: 6 party member limit,
2: Inability to split the party.

My Bhaalspawn is a thief in my current game, a damn good one. Even with the enhanced AI mods she's a fucking murder machine. The problem is that the other party members are a huge liability compared to her level of power which was at level 13 when I started fighting doppelgangers due to me soloing a huge chunk of what can be done in Baldur's Gate itself.

I had to make trips back and forth between places in order to keep all the NPCs in one location. If I could just have them all in "squads" like how Jagged Alliance 2 handles shit, it would be much easier to take care of all the issues of the Sword Coast.

Well, my jimmies will be rustled if it's anything else than a new installment. Like.. a release for Mobile phones, a remake of BG for Consoles based on 4E or something like that. Yeah, but with Bioware's last few products, I am not sure that actually is a good idea.

The trend goes to over simplified mechanics, standard cliche fantasy story and massive focus on the character interaction.

And don't get me wrong, the characters are one of the best parts of BG, but for a truly good game, you need more than that and I am not quite sure Bioware can deliver that.

This was pretty much the only solution.

If they'd switched over to 3e or 4e, they would have angered one of the two biggest sides in the edition wars. Keeping to the original system means that they don't anger any new player by picking everyone's favourite "worst system ever" and the fans of the game don't feel betrayed due to the rules change.

I'm looking forward to this, but I would've preferred a sequel.

I know this will probably draw flack, but I'd like to see romance options for female characters expanded. Anomen is a fucking tool, and the option for Valygar and Haer'dalis would be good.

Especially if they allow for Haer'dalis to keep being a womanizer and doing absolutely idiotic shit throughout the game. I swear, I'm the only person who liked him as a character. Sure, he said some stupid shit, but that's half the point. Plus, y'know, he's a cheerful Doomguard. That's just solid gold.

Valygar and Haer'Dalis WERE going to be romanceable originally, so I can see this happening.

Hell, I could see Haer'Dalis being romanceable for males, because according to some developers he's open for anything. He even apparently has a sequal encounter with a male drow.

I know it's not the point, but it is true and it will constantly get dragged around like an argument. And gods below help us they try comparing to action RPGs that are actually good.

Lemme put it like this. Writing is exotic seasoning. Gameplay is the meat. Nice roast plus good seasoning? Perfection. Now, if the meat is done well you can still have a blast without any decent seasoning, but if the meat is shitty seasoning won't save it. And BG games haven't exactly aged well, nor do they cater to the same audience modern mainstream RPGs do.

Dispel Magic doesn't dispel everything. Spell Turnings, Spell Deflections and Spell Traps will prevent you from clearing their other buffs. Spell Trap is especially nasty, and your Dispel Magic still has to roll to defeat each spell.

there's a damn good reason for there being so many Breach and Pierce-Magic type spells. Dispel is more for Slow, Charm Person and other emergency defensive dispelling.

also, you can't dispel what you can't see.

    >CHARNAM
    >Edwin
    >Korgan
    >Viconia

And some neutral fucks until Sarevok shows up. The option to keep NPCs through BG1 would be good.

From my experience, most of BG and BG2 bosses cheat (broken stats, innate immunities, SR, haste and so on) so much you can forget about dispelling them.

Especially Irenicus. He's literally immune to everything for several minutes; the most successful tactic against him is to sacrifice someone to draw him away from the party then huddle in a corner until all his spells expire.

actually, no, Jon Irenicus isn't invulnerable for more than the short round during which he appears from the door and various special scripts and dialogues fire. in fact, if you're a cheating little bastard yourself, you can exploit your Spike Traps and stack them all under where he will appear and they go off simultaneously, instantly chunking him.

what probably happened to you is that he puts up Spell Traps to protect his buffs from being stripped. you need high level spells to pierce Spell Trap, so if you were an anime faggot multiclassing everyone with levels in Fighter and didn't bring a strong Mage with you, you'll be shit out of luck, but he's not invincible.

Install the unofficial fixpack. In the original game the Dispel Magic code is bugged.

Normally, you're supposed to roll a check modified by how high the level of the caster was in order to remove magic protections. In Baldur's Gate, the code is bugged - Dispel Magic always works against casters lower level than the dispeller, but always fails against higher level casters.
Inquisitors always seem to succeed their dispels because it's calculated at double their level, and very few things in BGII are above 20 or so.

I read somewhere that was because the scripting of some plot events required CHARNAME to be alive and able to enter dialogue, hence they had to make it impossible to have them all greyed-out and not there.

Flimsy justification, but I'm okay with it. Only point of contention is Sarevok/Imoen, but that's been discussed.

Also: I wonder if the 'new characters' means potentially new party members?

Personally, I think all we REALLY need characterwise is a few more evil ones slotted well enough into the existing game, and hopefully make 1-2 of them open to romance. I'm not big on the ME-style "Bioware Romance Game with added RPG elements and some story somewhere," but the only time I finished BG2 was with an evil female character, and I didn't even have Anomen in the party, and probably wouldn't have even stood for his bullshit.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry. The responses to the "mod" in question from /tg/ have been so humorous that over time, posting images of it in BG-context threads has become a conditioned reflex.

Not that I wouldn't play the mod if it existed, of course, but at this point I'll be damnably glad for a Baldur's Gate remake. And while the games are immensely content-rich already, I can't help but hope that we'll get even more sub-quest content.

Also, XP gains for BG1 should be heavily adjusted, if I recall correctly. While I barely touched the XP cap on my first playthrough, on my 2nd and thereon, I had a bad habit of being level 7 before even entering the city proper. And popping off the level cap altogether just made the game child's play.

The whole game was about adventure, and damn if it didn't provide - I knew there was a big juicy mystery at the end of the road south, but there were just tons and tons of temptations along the way, so that I wound up meeting things such as sirines enslaved to ogre mages and the fastest dart thrower of the sword coast, and punting them all in the balls along the way. Let's get a few facts straight:

    It will use 2e AD&D.
It is not made by Bioware.
It will consist of all of BG1 and Tales of the Sword Coast together, along with new content.
It is being made by Beamdog with the original source code and a few of the original BG team members (as Beamdog was founded by ex-Bioware employees).
DLC is possible but extremely unlikely.
It has only been announced for the PC, with no stated intention to be ported to iOS.
It will be 2D isometric, like the original.
Only some content will be voiced.
Oster has declared his intent to try and make sure as many mods as possible will still work with it.
The game will be exclusively available through the Beamdog client and digital distribution platform, rather than GOG, Steam, Origin, or anything else you might care to name. This may mean no Mac version and probably means no iOS.
All of this can be checked and verified on Trent Oster's Twitter.

What we are looking at is essentially an HD Director's Cut, nothing more.

I checked out Beamdog, it's pretty cool at least. Goes for indie titles, though it's got a few big ones too. Even has a selection of freeware games (for free of course) like OpenCiv and Battle for Wesnoth, all in a Steam-like platform. Keeps things easy.

Obviously not about to take on Valve, but I think it's got enough of a niche to stay alive.

They're trying to promote their own digital distribution service. Compromising and putting it on another, more popular service runs counter to that goal.

If they want to get their service used, this certainly is the way to do it.

But the problem is, due to it being digital only, there will be some consumers that won't buy it due to it not being on Steam, GoG, or their distributor of choice. I'll still get the game for sure but it just sucks to know they could have had more sales.
