  • Happy 8th Birthday, 4chan *click*

Server/posting issues should be resolved now.

Portland, OR folks: You are invited to drink beers, play arcade games, and eat delicious donuts.
The *tentative* plan is to meet up Saturday, at 10PM @ Ground Kontrol ($2 cover after 9PM, 21+ after 5PM), and grab donuts at Voodoo after midnight.
If anything changes I'll post it to @4chan on the Twitter (so follow it if you're thinking about coming).

Well the reason I posted was, I've got this dwarf who's been cruising around with a broken and slashed open foot for like 2 years now. He won't rest up, he won't go to the hospital, the dude's just too fucken tough. I've tried sending him in solo against squads of monsters to get him injured so maybe he'll go to the hospital but it's not working.

I'm worried his foot will get infected or something. Any ideas?

Yeah, I've been playing it for the last few days. The biggest flaw for me is how you have to modernize your fleet. When you research a new technology, such as fuel efficiency, you then have to put a new engine using this fuel efficiency technology together. Then you have to research this new engine. Then you have to put it into the new design, retool a shipyard to it and get all your old ships of that kind back to the shipyard to assign them to refitting.

Also, you have to expand pretty aggressively, because you can do jack-shit with the resources you have.

At first, after looking at the wiki (which doesn't explain it very well) it seemed complicated but it's actually fairly easy.

If you create a channel all the way around an area, and channel away where it joins to the level above, it will fall.

An another note: is there a way to get a dwarf non-lethally injured? All my doctors have their medical skills very rusty, thanks to an invicible squad of macedwarves.
    >> Anonymous 10/01/11(Sat)10:48 No.16483386
standard advice for dealing with injured dorfs who refuse to go to the hospital is re-injure them somehow. when the doctor diagnoses him he'll treat the old injury as well as the new one. You could try causing a cave-in next to him (NOT on top of him, that's instadeath for anything ingame)
    >> Anonymous 10/01/11(Sat)10:49 No.16483390
Well he's been rocking a broken/cut open foot for a long time now. when there's an ambush I send him out and he just kills them all. He can kill about half an evil horde on his own and the traps get the rest of them.

When he got injured he was just a shit-kicker nobody but since then he's become legenday in most combat skills and a champion.

Wait, what? I must research this.
    >> Anonymous 10/01/11(Sat)11:42 No.16483762
I don't like immigrants. They can never do anything useful and they just steal the booze of hardworking folk. Since I am no nazi, I don't want to create death chambers, so I will just have them rot in a slum outside the proper fortress. That also makes for a nice defensive puffer in case of invasions.

Now, I still want to trade. How do I make a double-door-system to ensure none of those dirty immigrants sneak in with the trade goods?

I've been thinking about an elevated room with 2 z-levels, a trade depot on the first level and grates between first and second. When cycling, it locks up completely, water flows in from above until the second z-level is filled. Then we wait for a while and finally open the floodgates in front of some vertical grates on z-level 1.

    What do you think?

It's when fire touches alcohol, so it's not exactly controlled.

Magma, chained dragons or fire imps.

I think there's magma turtles in there too for some reason. Have fun trying to capture any of these, hehe

    You don't, that's the point.

Unless you somehow chain a somewhere and then release a creature into his line of sight, onto which he then launches flames, which may be directed to your bomb ...

That's kind of confusing. the wiki says this:

Note that setting booze on fire will not cause it to explode (nor has it ever done so) - however, exposing it to high temperatures will cause it to boil away (and the wooden barrels themselves can also be set on fire)
    >> Anonymous 10/01/11(Sat)12:05 No.16483908
Like most of the things listed on that achievements list exploding booze is probably completely random. Just don't keep your stockpiles near your magma pumps.
