Player here, play on normal, can never seem to get past any of the fifth stages. Any general tips for Normal Mode Touhou 6-8?

Also, is it just me, or are the games slowly getting harder?

Just use practice mode on each stage until you can do it with minimal bombs/deaths. 6-8 tend to ramp up on stage 4, so work on getting stages 1-3 perfect. When you have a big cache of lives stored up from those, it's pretty easy to finish off the game if you just bomb through everything.

I don't think the stages are getting harder, I just think that zun is running out of ideas. Case in point most of the attacks in UFO are very gimmicky, and one of byakuren's cards is a carbon copy of shinki's card from touhou 5. Also a lot of the subject matter from touhou 5 was brought back to UFO, hence "Makai" and the same attack:

So I suppose it would be better if we just had warhammer circlejerk #109532? Or who can forget the classic d20 "help me build a character to break the game" thread.

/tg/ is a catchall board for games that have heavy player-based input into their design or play. Most of everything in Touhou is fan created which is what makes it fun.

Can't speak for your group, but I homebrewed the stats/abilities for all the Touhou characters in my game, and my players told me it was one of the best campaigns they have ever played. Every now and again it's fun to throw in some homebrew to keep the meta-gamers on their toes.

You mean where they improve the game by making classes easier to understand and making every character more customizable by giving them themes?

No, you're thinking of the PHB2, which was awesome.

We're talking the PHB3, where Seekers are underpowered, Runepriest's fluff headbutts their crunch, monks are penalized for fighting unarmed and have half the damage-boosting striker standards incompatible with them, Battleminds DON'T FUCKING WORK, and Psions and Ardents have wildly differently effective themes and a dull as hell to boot.

Taht and the shittiness of DragMag lately.

That's precisely WHERE the problem comes from.

The design teams for 2008, 2009, and 2010 were all different ones. The 2010 team decided to take things in a TOTALLY CRAZY direction.

Themes give every character bonus powers for free, which is like objective power creep.

How much of a crazy cat lady do you believe Satori should be?

Does she really consider animals, ruled by their base instincts and their forthright expressions of emotions, more pure-hearted and comforting to be around compared to two-faced humans and youkai whose hearts hold sin and deceit? Does she find herself accepted by animals who can love a master who can read their simple thoughts and tend to them well, but not by humans and youkai who disdain her for being a telepath? Is that why she lives with so many animals?

    >> Anonymous 07/13/10(Tue)02:48 No.11103524
    >>11103293

I think that's pretty much hitting the nail on the head there.

But it might not be that she's bothered by the deceit (as it doesn't exist to her) but the others are bothered by her being a reflection of all their weaknesses - being around somebody who knows the entirety of you, when you've never been able to be honest your entire life could be pretty terrifying. But I think you could get used to it, though it would be maybe the most painful start to a friendship I can think of.

    >>11103524

I think the problem is equally split between her perception of others and others' perception of hers. Consider how cynical and distrustful you can be towards other people right now. Now think about how much more cynical you would be if you always knew how someone was trying to deceive you or and how someone wishes ill for you, maliciously lusts for you, or covets what you have. Think about how the fears of "What if she hates me?" that normally sit in the back of your head and go away after time can instead bloom into "She really does hate me..." When all of the evils of man and youkai alike are in plain sight, it is difficult to be comfortable around others.

Even harder is trying to keep what you see and hear locked inside your own heart. Eventually, you cannot help but speak out against someone, and the knowledge gets out... and you start to draw animosity. A vicious cycle.

Looking into others builds cynicism. Animals, comfort.

Cannon-wise animals were attracted to satori because of her powers, while sentient beings hate her because it's annoying being around people who can read your mind. Koishi on the other hand gained the power to close off the knowledge of what she was seeing, and gained the ability to subconsciously process thoughts and feelings without realizing it. A side effect of this though was that animals that loved her and satori so much were repelled from her.

    >> Anonymous 07/13/10(Tue)03:17 No.11104009
    >>11103937
Because the producer (ZUN) leaves the characters as nebulous as possible while encouraging people, pretty much explicitly, to make up their own idea of how those characters should be.

For example, Cultist-chan. She WAS a blank doodle feeding waffles to a chaos beast. Now what is she?

That's why Touhou characters are popular.

the reason why people care about caracther is that, other than the shooters, the artist at the origin of the games makes manga along ith some other, and has defined personalities and family relationships for most carchters.

of course, fandom took off too, andt here exists a big panoply of fanworks about everyday happenings in gensokyo.

in general id say that Zun has made an history, THEN made the games, wich is why every carachters, bar some rarely talked about, have some sort of fanbase and/or thier own personality

of course the reasons for appreciating some carachters, such as crino being the butt of all jokes, is also due t internet memes.

is that a good answer for you ?

You still don't get it? I'll break it down for you. It's obvious that the thread is off-topic to a degree, but it's still discussable by a good percentage of /tg/ members that enjoy Touhou. Some people may be on the fence about it, or wondering more about it, so this thread was made.

This is where you ride in. You post in the thread, adding a "sage" so that we can see your discontent, and then proceed to become butthurt when everyone doesn't immediately stop posting and praise you as their savior for letting them know it was off topic.

As you can see this is probably going to agitate some of the many people who have taken 15 seconds out of their day to post in this thread.

So yes. You are a troll. If you weren't you would have just fucking hit the report button and/or hidden the thread. Do you understand?

I think there would be plenty to talk about - it's just that Satori would be the one doing the talking.

"Yeah, you're right - they did a great job with the windows."
"Actually, the prices were very reasonable."
"Exactly my thoughts. We should introduce her to Remilia."

You might get a lot of interesting conversations out of the random thoughts that usually flit by and away.

    >>11104317

I'm actually statting a properly powerful (but beatable) Utsuho right now. It's not difficult, but as I'm statting her as a monster and I'm tired, I'll probably post it tomorrow - though I've been slowly doing proper builds of the interesting characters, so it might wait a little longer.

It'll be somewhat similar to the crappy one with the numbers higher (much higher) but I'm working out non-shitty spellcards for her. They'll be translations of hers and I think they can work well as battlefield control abilities.

I'm open to suggestions for her abilities - though it is pretty straightforward - and characters to do.

    So far I've done:

    Alice
    Marisa
    Patchouli
    Reimu/Sanae

Which are the easiest to do.

But when you feel the need to lie to someone, it's ultimately destructive to the relationship. You're lying, so you don't think the other is above lying to you, breeding fear and mistrust.

Meanwhile, if a telepath like Satori sticks around, you can be assured that the fact she tolerates your company is a product of you being yourself, rather than any facade you would put up around other people, which would be gradually torn down, leaving them disillusioned with you.

hmm tis a good thing, of course most people would find it unsettling that the person they are hanging out with can read thier minds, imagine what could happens if you have dirty toughts due to a random occurance.(other than hilarity )

i think that satori would make the ultimate bride, if she would find a man that she could stand.

she can read your very heart, so misunderstandings would never happen.

    also, as
    >>11104650
said, the random floating toughts and just speakin in genral would make for alot of her talking, but little of you, wich could get awkward sometimes if you are with other people and she does it by reflex.

Well, /tg/ is anonymous board. (Surprise-surprise!) Anyone who comes here automaticaly turned into member. /tg/ is one of nicer board with many interests aand even if /tg/ finds some content not propriate/retarded/trollfood etc. still such things wont be flooded with million PENIS/NIGGER/VAGINA and other annoying shit.
Also /tg/ takes seriously many things, discussing them. Obviously many guys who find their threads wiped/saged by siht in other boards would be glad to come here and make treads about their interests. Which are obviously not /tg/ related. And more than this - tohou clearly belongs to /a/

So, by indulging in such activities people ruin /tg/ and annoy its members. And when someone points that this is not /tg/ related answers are in trolling manner - thats not your board, we decide what related and what is not cuz we are members ( hurr durr anyone is a member)? why you cant allow us to have fun lke we want? Damn you act like furries already.

It brings nothing, but hate and resentment towards you. So with each day fa/tg/uys would take it less and less seriously, care less and less. Discusion club would be disbanded and you will find your threads wiped with image macroes and offencive words, written in caps. Contradictory. You can't pull the community card and say that /tg/ as a whole dislikes having a touhou thread on here, and then say it doesn't matter when such a thread gets traffic from that very community, including discussion of touhou-related /tg/ material

If /tg/ really disliked touhou as much as you imply, these threads would never go beyond 5 posts. Clearly, it doesn't.

pen and paper games are /TG/ related, as far as i know.

look upon this thred, ill admit that, like 90% of tg threads, this one has strayed from its original point. but! look inside of it, some people have made incarnations of the carachters in D20 format.

currenlty Touhou Homebrew Guy is makin a Fanmade touhou based roleplaying game

touhou flowers, wich is translated up to the playable point. is a pnp system for touhou, if you feel like looking it up, its here http://voile.gensokyo.org/res/29128.html

lots of people want to make games related to touhou and the setting of the games, wich can be easily translated into roleplay.

id say, for all the subject i have said, and more that exists but i migt forget with my tired mind at this hour. SOME touhou threads belong in /tg/.

p.s. : touhou is not an anime, it does not belong in /a/ ;P

Not everyone can just "be honest" with someone. More often than not, you yourself are the person you're dishonest with, and you're only misleading your close friend by proxy. A telepath could know you better than you do, and as long as she's sensitive to that fact and doesn't deliberately try to shatter your various self-delusions all at once, having such a friend could be a incredibly enlightening experience.

Well, 3.5 is the one that will see some use. Other systems I considered range from GURPS (which could probably model them better - but I don't know as well) to Shadowrun (some characters fit, but generally too powerful for it) and as I know 3.5 better than the majority of players - just a fact, I'm not the Optimisation King or anything - that's the one I'll use. If you can think of a better system I'm all ears, but I'll still do the 3.5 versions.

As it is, 3.5 supports the ultrapower of the Touhous (because that's what Wizards are like at level 20) and is well known. I'll probably get a lot of "TEH BROKENZ" or whatever - but while they will be beatable, they are hideously powerful. Don't expect a Warlock to do anything but fry if it even looks at Okuu - as it is it'd take a seriously on-the-ball party to drop her.

    [TROLL?]
Oh and it aint gonna be 4E because characters in 4E can't level mountains or control fundamentl forces or teleport properly or anything like what a 3.5 can, regardless of "balance".
    [/TROLL?]

That's actually okayish - as she gets Level 9 sorc casting - but the ice shard ability is worthless, it should do 9d6 damage. I'd also give her a set spell list of [Cold] spells and a few SLAs. Spellcards (1/encounter abilities) as well.

If she's a character then she needs a reason to throw Icicles at everyone - so it has to do actual damage. If she's an encounter then the four rounds of combat are spent casting her best spells, which will be just as powerful.
