first step, copy shit
seriously, the first thing to do is look at something and VERY DETAILEDly copy it. Use a pencil and "scribble sketch" it.
If
you learn to observe something as it is, rather than what you think it
looks like (it's hard to explain, but try spending 30 minutes to draw
an item on your desk, look very carefully how the light plays off it,
how it looks, ect)
pic is something i did based on a few
reference shots, it's far from perfect but you should have seen the
shit i was spewing out only weeks beforehand.
